Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Probably because Sam14 and others, maybe players, heard something was going to happen and it didn't.
Which further indicates they don't know everything that is happening.

Gotta be careful with rumours. Sam14 is pretty good at being cautious when posting here.

One thing I am certain of ... there is something rotten within that organization and the owner is ultimately responsible.

The reason is pretty clear is the complaint to the OHL regarding the theatre incident. That's bad enough on it's own but then you get the cover up which becomes an even bigger issue. I'm sure the OHL rep imbedded with the team is getting an eyeful!

Yesterday you said that some unexpected players might be scratched last night. Didn't happen.

Sam14, I really do believe you have some inside info. However, unless you actually work there you are passing along second hand info at best. Which is why I am cautious when talking about kids or young men.
They are young men who choose to put themselves in the limelight by virtue of signing on to an OHL team. Would I want that for my son? Hell no, but they have already competed for the privilege of being in the public eye. There are plenty of perks that come along with their positions, but also extra responsibilities.

@Sam14 has a network connection into the team, he's very often right and I trust him to say what's what when he can. Often times "news" is watermarked which means a slightly different story is presented in hopes of identifying a source. The best way to avoid falling victim to a watermark is to be selective on what you reveal or have multiple sources.

What I believe happened was a public incident. The team suspected there may have been external discipline. There may well be something coming, but the league is loathe to impose sanctions during playoffs. I suspect instead this is just another nail in the original coffin and it will be resolved in one sweeping remedy.

As mentioned in an earlier post, DD’s draft assets mismanagement has left us without a 2nd round 09. Despite all the negativity surrounding the team, pre-OHL Priority Draft, it would be in our franchise’s best interest to use the 10th overall pick to select the BPA regardless. rather than reach for a late 1st or 2nd round talent who is willing to sign. It would give a potential new owner the opportunity to declare him defective; collect the draft picks and compensatory 2010 1st round pick. The new owner would then have two first round picks in 2026 OHL draft and a surplus of draft picks (even moreso after they trade Kevin He).

If the IceDogs are drafting BPA available, they are probably targeting one of these players…

(FIRST 6 OFF THE BOARD…in no particular order)
Max Delisle (RF) – Toronto Titans GTHL (6.00 / 175)
Kaden McGregor (RF) - Ottawa Valley Titans HEO (5.11 / 170)
Charlie Murata (RF) – Don Mills Flyers GTHL (5.11 / 170)
Camryn Warren (RF) – Toronto Jr.Canadiens GTHL (5.09 / 150)
Brock Chitaroni (RF) – Barrie Colts OMHA East (5.11 / 170)
Jaakko Wycisk (RF) - Sun County Panthers Alliance (6.00 / 175)

(WHO THE ICEDOGS SHOULD BE CONSIDERING at 10…in no particular order))
Ryerson Edgar (RF) – York Simcoe Express OMHA East (5.10 / 155)
Kieran Raynor (RF) Niagara North Stars OMHA West (5.10 / 165) ...local kid, so maybe there's a chance or maybe not.
Brenner Lammens (LF) – Toronto Red Wings GTHL (6.01 / 190)
Kane Barch USA (LF) – Huron Perth Lakers Alliance (5.11 / 185)
Keaton Ardagh (RF) - Toronto Jr.Canadiens GTHL (6.00 / 165)
Brayden Bennett (LF) – Toronto Titans GTHL (5.11 / 185)

(FYI. Just a few of the top OHL Eligible USA PLAYER…who the IceDogs won’t draft but some other teams may depending on the USNTDP status and/or path preference)
F Rocco Pelosi USA (Mount St Charles)
F Alexander Milojevic USA (Chicago Mission)
F Trevor Daley Jr. USA (Florida Alliance North)

Footnote: OHL Cup Week is over, not much of an IceDogs presence, in comparison to other OHL teams

Even if DDD sells (I still have my doubts) I don’t know if a new owner would be here in time to declare whoever they draft as defective or even if we’d get an extra first cause we might end up losing next year’s after the investigation. You mentioned trading He is that cause he’s one that wants out or because that’s in the best interest of the team moving forward? If you were GM who are you taking out of your 6 they should consider taking (pretending all were still available)

Ticket sales look sluggish. Weekday games. More bad publicity. Terrible record since February. Many people fear a 4 game sweep.

Pretty sad for a return to the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the inmates are running the asylum. The players are behaving poorly off the ice and our owner refuses to put his foot down. Ben Boudreau is caught in the middle...the players hate the owner and are determined to punish him.

If the OHL wants DD to sell, and I am sure they do, I can’t see the league taking away draft picks. They would want the IceDogs to be as attractive as possible to a new owner and for the team to be in a position to rebuild quickly. I think we will see fines and maybe DD being banned from having any involvement in the hockey operations for a few years. Hopefully that will push DD to sell.

Well if this is the case ( I have reason to believe it isn't ) Then maybe they are doing what it takes to make the situation better for the next ones.

so what you’re saying is nothing will change cause this is pretty much what happened last time

What I can tell you is that Kevin He is not immature, but he’s also unhappy with the current situation as it stands.

With the blatant team immaturity, it sure seems like some players are being deliberately defiant, even while under a microscope. So they either don’t care or they are trying to initiate the change in ownership.

If I were the GM of the IceDogs, my first move would be to fix the stupidity that left the IceDogs without a 2nd in the upcoming draft...trade our 2026 2nd ( + ? ) for a 2025 2nd . That 2026 void can be addressed at the trade deadline next season.

Anyone of those next six on that list, would be a legitimate 10th overall pick, however, to answer your question properly, give me a week, to review all my ohl cup notes and review game footage on those six players before providing you with my best IceDogs' recommendation(s).

Niagara has 3,4,4 picks, so a missing 2nd pick in the upcoming draft is not at all critical. That pick would be a little used spare if the IceDogs use an OA spot on D, sign their 1st, and have 1-2 imports.

A completely tone deaf reply! Wtf.

IF it was an extra 3 not 4 I might be able to agree with this especially if it was an early round pick but I have to disagree with you as for how much that pick is used as of today (without discussing who might want out after this current investigation)

They have to replace AT A MINIMUM Loshko NVV Flores (OAs so definitely gone) and likely Paris Levin Robertson and one if not both of Scott and Wycisk. So although the kids they get in the draft obviously won’t replace all of what I listed I don’t think they’ll be a spare barely used as for your import comment you really trust DDD to draft and sign useable guys

Agree! Even with new ownership, this mess cannot be fixed over a few months this summer, there is considerable damage done to this franchise. Being realistic, this current group of players are not winning an OHL championship in 25-26. That process needs to be done properly. Next season, under (hopefully) new ownership and a qualified GM, the process of retooling / rebuilding, through the draft, needs to be accelerated by moving players out (some who absolutely need to be moved and some we should move to maximize the return) and recoup youth (08s, 07s D-men) and draft picks; construct the roster properly; hire a proper scouting staff; identify the players you want to retain going forward; actually draft and sign high-impact Imports in 2026; and as important as any of the previous needs the IceDogs have to REGAIN the confidence of player agents, players, parents and fans!

Further details to the recent Pen Centre theatre incident, indicates their behaviour was not only extremely immature but downright disrespectful. With the IceDogs already in the midst of a serious third party investigation, a group of players used the opportunity when their babysitter Brodie Barrick was at the OHL Cup to make a spectacle of themselves in public. So add yet another league investigation. I’ll be shocked if both investigations don’t lead to new ownership and several players traded away. Three years of embarrassment for this franchise on and off the ice is enough.

Be a part of saving our team and email our commissioner. Many former STHs have already done so.
