Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Careful, I've been saying this for the last few months. Some fans aren't going to like hearing it, even though you are 100% correct.

It will be tougher to compete against those teams that loaded up at the deadline without Little Ass and Paris in the lineup. Our forward depth is poor

IceDogs are really falling behind in the NCAA/OHL transfers (and Free Agents). First issue: In three years, the IceDogs never drafted possible flyer picks. Second issue: The transfer fee for these players (drafted or free agents) is quite significant (somewhere between 5,000-20,000 US dollars). So no surprise we didn’t jump into the FA market

To date 18 of the 20 OHL teams have benefitted from the new ruling allowing them to acquire valuable assets at no draft capital cost, only financial. As an example, the IceDogs next opponent, Erie, were able to add 4 significant players to bolster their roster for the most difficult portion of the regular season.

Anyone among the fan base, any worries Flores is playing too much? Yes, it's fueled some nice results early on, but any fear he's going to hit a wall?

Coach Ben mentioned that he plans to play Flores every one of the remaining games. So that is concerning.

It seams like he is losing his cool more often. I think he is playing too often

Looks like you guys have 8 back to backs left, 1 of them being a 3 in 3. That's crazy to me.

I'd have to look, but I don't think Leenders has even played 1 back to back.

Great point. Drobac got played a lot last season, and even as an OA, I feel like he was wiped by the time playoffs rolled around. Mind you, the Bulldogs D was very thin due to injuries, which I’m sure didn’t help, but regardless, I think the number of games caught up to him. Flores has played more, and I’ve seen many references to Niagara’s lack of D…I guess time will tell.

Is he playing too often yea maybe but he’d lose his cool every game if other teams bumped him enough

With the NCAA ruling, more US players will want to play in the OHL. So far DD hasn’t drafted a single US kid as US scholarships cost more. Will DD continue to pass over US players or does he pay up and start drafting them like the other 19 OHL teams?
