Not sure if Niagara could get past Barrie, Oshawa or Kingston in po's.
I agree. I think with this they’d be taking a gamble at next year though with roobroeck and his draft year(proj top 5pick), Czatas dy+1, cretes dy and prob top 2 round pick, Kevin He’s 19 year old season, brautis 19 year old season, galiyanovs draft year (not sure where he is supposed to go), Luchanko would be among the best if not THE best in the league next year too IF he is back and that is a big IF.

With this move they’d probably be looking for some valuable playoff experience before pushing the chips in next year. Not sure it would work though as there is a lot of gaps to fill such as who will play net and who will step up on d besides brauti. I assume they use an import pick on defence and maybe on on a goalie, draft a defenceman, and trade for 1?

This season, the Ice Dogs have overcome their losing mentality of the past four or five years. They are now building on a winning tradition with great success. However, will it be enough to go for the big push this spring? Personally, I think not. Not if they have to give up their future for only one crack at the big Memorial silver can, if they need two or three more big time players, that will cost them dearly. But if they only need a couple to tweak their roster or for depth, then go for it.

The Ice Dogs management has a lot to think about over the next 4 weeks. It might be best for them to focus on their winning tradition for another full season and see how far this year will take them, before they try to go for broke. IMHO

On the OHL podcast, they actually felt Niagara would make a little push this year because next season might be tough. They lose Floris and Loshko next season and they believe He could make the NHL next season. If that happens, the IceDogs will fall in the standings.

I think a better plan would be to go for it in 2026-27 but attendance is so low that I think DD wants to go for it this season and not worry about future years right now.

The question is what does a little push look like I don’t think He sticks around next year he might get some games but i think he’ll be back here the Flores and Loshko thing is a potential concern though as for when to go for it if they did wait they could be in decent shape when it comes to having pieces to move if it’s done right BUT DDD will be in charge so chances are it wouldn’t be done right at all

He will return for another season, I'm sure.
What makes it tough to determine if waiting for next season when the team is undoubtedly better is the way to go is that the central division could be wicked. Barrie and Brampton are potentially loaded with '06 and OA all-stars, NB must have a dozen '06s as well, and if Sudbury moves Musty they will have picks to waste.

Big northern road trip coming up. NB, Soo and Sudbury.

I am guessing 4 points.

I think this is exactly what we are seeing. He needs to sell tickets. I kind of support the idea for the survival of the franchise.

health permitting of course, adding little more than needed pieces over 2-3 seasons might make the franchise competitive and stable. That would go a long way towards survival too.

DD has run this organization on the cheap for three consecutive years and used the same shortsighted plan all three years. Each season, he wastefully uses high draft capital to acquire player that can make the IceDogs immediately competitive (but not good enough to win a championship). However, that plan failed miserably the first two times, but in failing it also allowed him to use the trade-able assets on his rosters to re-stock his draft cupboard SO he could attempt the same plan the following year. Three year later, DD has what he always wanted…a competitive IceDogs’ team (but one not good enough to win a championship).

The problem is obvious. Now DD does not have a surplus of draft picks nor can he recoup picks as he did the previous two season without making the current team weaker and he doesn’t have the financial ability to recruit elite talent in the import draft.

So where does this leave the IceDogs next year and the year after? An OHL team that will show internal progress (provided he doesn’t trade those players away) but also a team with a lack of draft capital (and the financial requirements) to transform into championship team (just a playoff team again), unlike what a Barrie, Oshawa and other teams in that position are able to do and prepare for.

DD’s short-sighted plan does not appeal to the knowledgeable departed STHs as far as renewals are concerned.
