Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The timing on playing those two teams couldn’t have worked out better: during WJC and before the trade deadline.
Great opportunity for the IceDogs to pick up 4 important points and extend the win streak!

You have a very good young team, impressive. After reading your thread over the past several years I’m not convinced your ownership group won’t go for it this year and next. The lure of extra playoff $ is too strong for most owners. We may all see a way more buyers at the deadline than is obvious today. Just my prediction. Happy Holidays.
Think they’ve got more than those guys away at least Brampton does depending on when camps start

Given the circumstances with missing elite players. I think the IceDogs are going to get 3 points this weekend, Maybe even win both.

If the IceDogs did not have recruitment issues, there is a scenario that plays out differently for Niagara:
IceDpgs rioster 06 NHL D G Eliasson; 04 A.Loshko and 04 G.Bryant. (No 04 NVV and the iceDogs would have an additional 3rd, 4th and 5th in their draft cupboard)
IceDogs roster would be stronger this year; set up to have additional draft capital and an opportunity to have an NHL drafted D in place for a potential all in year in 25-26.
This Eliasson debacle is a perfect example of what’s holding this franchise back and fans from ever returning.
Their inabilities to recruit has consequences in the current and subsequent years, as it limits the talent ceiling they can assemble in an all in year.
The only caveat to this being now that the IceDogs are having on ice success how much has that changed the IceDogs recruitment future. When Eliasson was traded on September 25th the IceDogs were an organization that hadn’t done much of anything since before COVID. Now that the IceDogs are looking like a 3-6 seed team this year that has some of the best 07-08 building blocks in the league (if not the best with some really solid 06’s too), it’s hard to imagine a future Eliasson situation next summer. But time will tell if the recruitment issue is fixed as some have said, or alive and well as others have said.
Import recruitment, specifically, is in large part money driven. Of course a better team helps but money is the driving factor for those agents. No potential on ice success will change the fact that DD can’t afford these elite NHL talents like Eliasson.
Was not signing Eliasson due to money? I thought Eliasson was refusing to play here?

Does this mean you don't think our recruitment here in Ontario is no longer a problem? Because I agree with that. Roebroeck and Wassilyn proved that is not an issue.
Teams that suck generally do have trouble recruiting players with options. At least Niagara got a 3rd for Eliasson, so only 4 & 5 picks of their existing picks were used on VanVliet. And with VanVliet helping to make the IceDogs look good, recruiting might be a bit easier.

I think the whole trade was a pre-arranged charade designed to take advantage of the IceDogs early pick. I don't believe there was ever any intention for him to remain in Niagara. Why DDD would do that kind of favour to a Divisional rival boggles the mind. A 3rd was nowhere near enough.

If Niagara was used as a means to get Eliasson to Barrie from the get go than yes that is bad and yes when you look at what Guelph got for Alriksson 2nd 3rd 3rd plus a year older and a worse player it’s pretty sad they got 1 3rd.

OK besides being physical and taking an average of six penalty minutes per game I really don’t see how he would help. There’s a lot better D that are available. He’s just an angry sucker. Sure he’s 67 and physical that’s his main skill.
Can you please reframe from offending the intelligence of IceDogs fans by this ridiculous notion that "something was better than nothing". Call this trade what everyone in the OHL is calling it "an fkn embarrassment to this organization".
He also a year older 2005 and a 4th round #107 overall pick by Vancouver. Eliasson is a 2006 draft in the 2nd round #39 overall by Ottawa. So, there that too!
The NHL draft position does not determine the better OHL player.
Barlow was the 18th pick. He was the 109th pick. He is a year younger, so there is that too.
Eliasson is a BIG project entrusted in Williamson to develop. Alriksson is the better OHL player now.
