NHL wants to expand to 36 teams

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Gary trying to hit that elusive Lockout Triple Crown. Would really cement his legacy.
Tbh I think the owners and players would love expansion, just more money for their greedy little palms.

It's the fans that suffer for it.

32 teams is perfect, but anymore and the product not only gets watered down but winning the cup gets harder for everyone. In the span of 10-15 years winning a cup will have gotten 20% harder with literally nothing changing about the game.

But it's all about the money so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they did expand massively because it is a boom for everyone that isn't already a fan of a team.

The first 4 would be my guess as the most likely to get a franchise.

But if they go ahead with the plan (36 by 2030) that's nearly a franchise per year. The players left exposed by the time they get to teams #35 and #36 .... Yikes. Kansas City's top line will be centered by Ryan Reaves.

I wanna see that.

Good way to severely hurt the acersge product which is already soft and corporate and sanitized even in comparison to 8 years ago.

I understand why so many are against expansion. It's like the people that build their house in the new suburbs and then complain when other people do it after them.

Here are some facts
The US population is expanding
Hockey has been a northern only sport
A number of good players are starting to come from not-so North areas
The players keep getting faster and better conditioned
There are some major markets without a team including Houston, Atlanta and Phoenix. There franchises will succeed if don't correctly

Expansion, if done correctly, is not a bad thing.
