Other teams aren't signing Greenway for 4 million. I am surprised people think players sign here for market value.

Agree to disagree, as would AFP, who is usually pretty spot on (and I’d wager Evolving Hockey will also have a similar number, but theirs aren’t out yet). I’d refer you to the Goodrow contract as to what happens during UFA season.
Seems a little Jeannot but he is a good player without just the face punching part of it all.
Me breaking into the Sabres front office with Zucker about to sign realizing we could get a 1st rounder:
Bjorkstrand is signed beyond this year and Gourde is a center. When did Zucker become either of those things?

Why? Their window is right now. They don't need to worry about five years down the line - it's how to keep the window open and they are more than willing to pay for what they want in order to do that.
And when that window has closed, Vinik will be long gone. In the meantime, they're going to try to win with the core they identify and are constantly refreshing.

Well, because the price is too high. Gourde wasn't very good and he sucks in the center. Bjorkstrand is decent, but I don't think two 1st are worth it. I understand that their window and all that, it just seems a bit pricey.
Cooper knows Gourde, Bjorkstrand is the sort of excellent skating 2-way guy who seem to thrive in Tampa and the Lightning have from what I've read gotten retention on both.

Depends on where you stand on this one. For a team trying to win now, they didn't quibble. I would think they also know they won't be dropping off as long as Vasi and Kucherov and Hedman are on their games so those picks are likely well into the later third of the first round.
I would like to have a GM who builds a perennial powerhouse and then be able to call him an idiot for trying to get the team I root for a third cup win and fifth cup appearance in six years. That would be new.

Well, he already paid the king's ransom for Jeannot, I like Bjorkstrand and I even wanted to see him in Buffalo, but two 1st for second-line winger and with UFA in a year looks rich to me. I understand that this is their window, I'm just evaluating the deal and that's my opinion.

Jesus. Talk about a seller's market. Good god.
That said.....I'd still rather re-sign Greenway and Zucker than trade them. So I'm very happy we're re-upping Greener to something reasonable.

Late round picks are massively overrated. Where the Bolts tend to draft in the 2nd round are under 30% for a player to play 100 or more games. Gets worse from there.

I wonder Z if KA has gotten a crazy offer for Zucker ?, seeing we have only heard about Greenway since Chad mentioned Zucker was close to extending last night ? Or maybe Chad had the wrong guy ?
