Murphy looked like a decent target... 3, 4, 5 years ago? Now, not so much.

We could have acquired him and already moved on from him a few seasons past it was so long ago.

That is an overpayment for Murphy. He has lost a gear over the last couple of years and hasn't realized it thus making his errors that much more egregious. He could work with a pmd but that is a lot to pay for little upside.

My brothers we are not getting a 1st for Jason Zucker. I’ve seen this perpetuated in a few places, and while ordinarily I would stand back while Kyvyn is the subject of rage posts, my need for realism persists. A 2nd is about what you should expect. Maybe less. He’s never been on a deep playoff run and his playoff pts/game lags behind his regular season by significant amount. There is no team out there who thinks Zuck is the missing piece for a cup. He’s a secondary scorer that a team like Minnesota or LA might see as providing enough PP value to warrant a 2nd. Otherwise he’ll go to the highest bidder for like a 3rd and a future 6th. Just, be realistic.
2nd I expect but the 2nd could become a 1st based on playoff advancement.

Why...other playets like an older jagr went in such a trade between dallas and boston

This year buffalo us one of only s few clear sellers. Others aren't sure yet. If someone wanted this guy and not wait you get a 1st or such an offer

Henrique, Lindholm, and Monahan were the 3 forward rentals that moved for 1sts at last year's TDL.

I think it is optimistic to think that Zucker has that much value at this stage of his career.

Even if they COULD get a 1st from a contender, I'm not sure I'd do that.

The guy is valuable to this team right now. You probably have a somewhat better chance of re-signing him if he stays here, and as a veteran he might have an impact on this roster in a positive way.

So even if you COULD get a late first for him, is it worth it? Maybe as a future trade chip. Wyatt Johnson, Jiri Kulich, and Tage Thompson are the only forwards I have seen when going back 8-9 years in draft history that any signifcant production when drafted in the bottom 1/3 of the first round. This team needs help now. Not a 10% - 15% chance of getting a productive player 3-5 years from now.

I think you'd hope to spin that pick for something.

Fair, but this will be one of the biggest seller's markets ever with so many teams in the playoff race and this is projected to be a VERY weak draft so teams are clearly more willing to trade them. Wouldn't expect it but stranger things have happened.

There are two kinds of weak drafts.

There are drafts that are weak at the top because they lack THE DUDE at the top like McDavid, Matthews, MacKinnon, etc.

There are also drafts with relatively weak depth.

But, most people tend to label draft classes based on the impressions of the talent in the top 1-5 picks.

That won't matter when it comes to assessing the value of picks that playoff teams will be offering up for a rental. It is more about whether picks in the 2nd half of the 1st round are going to be tier 3 or 4 type guys or tier 5 guys.

All that being said, GMs can make dumb decisions. However, the Sabres GM isn't usually the guy taking advantage of other guys. So, I would not expect it.

I'll expect Zucker to return a 3rd. That way, if he returns a 2nd or a 1st, I can be pleasantly surprised by the return. And if the best offer Adams gets for Zucker is a 4th, my guess is that he keeps him unless Zucker asks out.

Guys what do you guys think is fair in a Jokiharju trade, and what has been the reason behind his apparent step back offensively this season?

Also has he been banged up a bit this year or a healthy scratch at times?

Byram replaced Jokiharju as the resident Dahlin-merchant and that is the easiest explanation for the drop in production and his healthy scratches.

He has not been banged up by all public reports.

And as far as fair trade value for a veteran NHL RHD that isn't great, is overpaid, and been available in trade for a while without any takers, my guess is a late round draft pick and/or a mediocre prospect. Especially since Adams is unlikely to retain any salary to make it easier for a new team to take him on.

Adams loves to collect "No Retention" badges at the TDL.

I still maintain that he's worth more than one would think. He's proven that he can eat 5v5 minutes, especially when paired with the right guy. He can run a PP2 in an absolute pinch. He's got nearly 400 games worth of experience. And there's that thing that nearly every Dman we trade away recently takes a sizeable step up in performance when leaving here

It wouldn't shock me at all if we get something like a 3rd and 6th or 7th for him. There's ALWAYS a market for veteran RHDs....and they usually fetch more than anyone thinks.

The counterargument to that is the fact that Adams basically said that he was only back this season because he tried to trade him and nobody was interested.

The fact that there is less of his cap hit left to absorb will help in that regard now. But, it still stands that he is not a RHD that is in high demand. And his play this season has not increased the demand.

I expect him to be one of those late round pick for a "break glass in case of emergency NHL defenseman" type deals. I will be pleasantly surprised if he has a lot of trade value and returns even a 4th round pick.

Any chance Joker gets traded at the deadline or does Adams want to resign him?

Haven't heard much about him either way. Can't imagine getting more than a 3rd for him.

Greenway probably gets a 2nd if he is traded. His style of play is geared towards the playoffs and could see a few teams interested.
