AGAIN...this is going to into this season, not from what teams did 5/10/15 years ago. I would think thats self explanatory (seeing as how we have done this for every season on this board), otherwise it would have said NHL ALL-TIME Team Rankings.

The NYI get no respect, probably because they have no superstar marquee player. Yet they've been a top team for the last three/four years or so. Florida had a nice season, but hasn't proven anything. The Islanders have.

Florida? I can't see them finishing above the Leafs in the Atlantic.
This really should be the Leafs but we all know how HF goes. Hell I bet the wonderful HF hive mind has them as a bubble team.
They got unlucky against the Habs.

Yeah, because Toronto has a better team than Florida. The Panthers are a deeper team, and better coached.

Meh, Florida improved by getting Reinhart, Toronto got worse by losing Hyman.

Habs definitely were better than the Leafs and deserved to beat them in the playoffs. They got to the Finals after all, and beat Vegas (ranked third here) pretty handily to do it.

Honestly, I'd probably choose Habs over Leafs in this poll

Isles. It’s simply hard to deny at this point - despite a perceived lack of high end offensive talent outside of Barzal - they simply play a style that wins and it’s a style that can have playoff success imo. The defense is elite and deep and could get even better, the goaltending duo is for my money easily the best in the NHL (and we all know how fickle goalies can be - having two capable of elite play is the best insurance), and the forward group is gritty and experienced and just as likely to get a game winner from the third line as the first.

They probably should not be next on a pure skill or excitement level but with Lou, Trotz and a team designed to maximize their tendencies - I’m not betting against them being right around the top at the end of the day. Depth, experience and a team buy-in to the concept will make them a tough out.

We disagree on how to rate Florida. It's ok - we'll both survive a difference of opinions I promise. I think everyone knows we're not ranking teams all-time ;)

Is Florida HFs new flavor of the month?

This should be the Islanders. Heck, Carolina should be ahead of Florida as well.

For Florida - I guess so. I don't get it. I don't trust their goalie situation at all.

For Islanders - what are we ranking? Regular season expectancy? It's fine if we want to put NYI #1 in the metro for most likely to succeed in playoffs - they've done great there 2 years running and would deserve that respect. But if this is for regular season success, or even simply "most likely to qualify for playoffs" - I'd still rank both Pitt & Washington above NYI.

Umm nooooo, the Leafs were the better team and had Marner+Matthews not run out of puck luck it was an easy win for the Leafs.

Sure we lost Hyman but we got Ritchie and Bunting, I call it a wash, plus we added Kase. If he stays healthy we are a better team.
Not too mention we won't have Anderson's sub .900 goal tending.
Everyone is soo quick to forget how utterly dominant we were against any other team in the North last year. Habs only beat us in a luck contest (O.T)

I take Ritchie-Matthews-Marner over Huberdeau-Barkov-Hornqvist
Also Bunting-Tavares-Nylander over Bennett-Reinheart-Vartano, the gap gets bigger when you look at 3rd and 4th lines.
Only spot FLA has a real advantage is #1RD

lmao. Your lines goes to show you how little you know about the Panthers. The Panthers are arguably the deepest team in the league up front, our D core is better, and we were an over .610 with Bob in net last season. Toronto is not the better team.

I already said I don’t think the Leafs are far from this group and liked the depth they added in the cheap this off-season but the amount of expectation I am seeing for Michael Bunting, Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase is getting pretty silly.

Bunting is a guy who went from an unremarkable older prospect to a guy with a short hot stretch who the Coyotes didn’t even bother keeping even though he’s cheap.

Ritchie is a perpetual tease who lacks intelligence and consistent effort and is purely a PP net guy - apparently he is going to keep tricking new fanbases into thinking he has the potential to be something more.

Kase has played like 30 games in two years and is coming off multiple concussions.

All together I think they are good cheap pickups for a team searching for depth at a low cost but none of them should be figuring heavily into arguments on why a team should be top 5 or not in the league.
