League News: NHL Talk - (News n' Scores n' Stuff) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

You're absolutely right. I just have a hard time seeing a Calgary team that is 5-3-2 in their last 10 winning more than 2 of their remaining 4 games. And if they don't win at least 3, they're done no matter what, and that assumes that St. Louis loses both (which I think they'll win at least one and probably both) and that Minnesota loses all three.
Calgary sucks - they have barely any talent on their roster. They are only sniffing a playoff spot because of their rookie goalie

I know I know, fear no one. You have to beat the best to win the Stanley Cup anyway. But...

I really hope Montreal beat the Sens tonight and then take the 7th seed. I think the Sens are the easier out.

Agreed. The Caps have the physical advantage too, but as always never take any opponent lightly in the playoffs. The Habs when they make the playoffs seem to surprise fans historically.
Demidov is a wildcard too. It’s a short runway but he and Nikishin have an outside shot at being the most impactful late season adds.

Leonard is in that mix too along with Snuggerud for STL. So far, the late season additions haven't had much of an impact across the NHL, but there is still time.

Leonard 1 goal in 5 games
Snuggerud 2 assists (no goals) in 5 games
Wood 0 points in 3 games
Perreault 0 points in 3 games (and has been inexplicably healthy scratched a few times)
Ostlund 0 points in 4 games
Moore 3 assists (no goals) in 6 games

A reminder that it's tough to break into the NHL. Nikishin is older (which probably bodes well for immediate impact) but Demidov, though immensely talented, is only 19.

Unrelated, Calgary with a massive win last night. Still not likely that they make it, but they would've been effectively eliminated with a loss.

Fun rookie class next year!

cpl huge games in the West, could get interesting
MIN @ VAN (w/Min on back half of b2b)
STL @ SEA

Sunday: CGY v SJS

if either MIN or STL lose tonight in reg that would be 81GP 43-31-7 93pts (they both have identical records rn)
if CGY wins Sunday they're at 80GP 39-27-14 92pts

that would make CGY in charge of their own destiny
and would make a spectacular heartbreak for STL or MIN

The Leafs are getting Halak'd vs the Habs tonight. Same goalie that the Caps struggled to score on in their only loss to the Habs this season.

Exactly, also remember that Tony DeAngelo had 32 points in 34 games when he left SKA, so while I expect both are gonna be really good players, I'm not going to freak out about KHL numbers just yet.
