Crazy…
I don’t think the guy realized who he was giving a shove to. It sure wasn’t violent, but to a lay person, YIKES

I felt like that was me getting pushed into the boards.

Shudder

He gave the ref a pretty hard shove. Admittedly made worse because the ref was almost stationary, but even so....it wasn't a gentle push.

Agree he didn't know it was a ref, though. And he immediately went to see if he was ok.

Gauthier with another 2g game. Again, very glad Philly fumbled that situation.

Celebrini’s first NHL hatty tonight, in what might be MAF’s last game.

Connor Brown(!) had a last sec GWG against Binnington and the hot Blues. Some wild late games tonight.

So a scratch doesn’t sound unwarranted, would that be accurate or would you just throw him out there and let him struggle through it?

They bleed chances against when he's on the ice and Laviolette doesn't trust starting him in the D zone (83% offensive-zone starts).

That said, they bleed chances against no matter who is on the ice so... but he's a kid and like most thought, not ready. I don't think he played so bad that it warranted a scratch (esp since his competition blows too) but you can see why the coach would scratch him if they don't trust him.

Perreault has looked extremely creative on the ice for the Rangers when he has the puck on his stick (not a surprise), but he can't handle contact against pros as he did in the NCAA, and doesn't have the wheels to create as much space for himself in the NHL.

Long story short, Perreault's transition to the NHL isn't as seamless as Leonard's but he remains a top prospect and should be very good for the Rangers in 2 years after he's done bulking-up and learns to play at a faster pace.

The Rangers only have a small chance to make the playoffs, but scratching Perreault, who makes mistakes and is learning right now, IS the correct decision in my sense given the circumstances and that they can't afford ANY mistake/growing pains right now.

When/if the Rangers are eliminated then they'll likely call-up Othmann and also give more ice to Perreault in preparation of next season.
Was kinda surprised he signed felt he needed another season of seasoning at the D1 level. Would have been the likely number 1 player for BC next season. Barring NYR going rebuild mode next season just figured whatever non-prospect developing head coach would be more to negatively impact the player.

Hilarious what the Lightning are doing.

Didn't want to waive Atkinson or a bubble player so they didn't have the cap space to sign Isaac Howard after he wanted to turn pro. Well, he blew them off and decided to go back to MSU for another year, which is a huge blow for the 'bolts. Unrestricted free agent in August 2026. He's going to be coveted if he doesn't sign before that.

Could be a trade bait this summer.

CGY blew a huge point last night; ANA doing some serious spoiling
they're the last team on the outside with a realistic shot of catching anybody

CGY up 3-1 w/5 min left > lose in OT

still have a chance with the games in hand, and what a blow they could deal to STL potentially

WC1 - MIN 79GP 43-29-7 93pts
WC2 - STL 80GP 43-30-7 93pts
----
CGY 78GP 37-27-14 88pts

I believe Calgary ended their playoff hopes last night. Not mathematically, obviously, but they're now on life support given that St. Louis holds a 5 point lead and the RW tiebreaker. Blues also get their last two against Seattle and Utah with multiple days off before each game.

Calgary had (prior to last night) a better shot of catching Minnesota simply because they play a head to head game against them, but they could not afford a 3 point swing against (giving up 1 point + Minnesota getting 2). Calgary also plays LAK & Vegas in their last two. Those teams won't be going full bore, but they've been playing very well lately (LAK 7-3; VGK 7-2-1 last 10).

Minnesota finishes with Canucks & Ducks after the Flames game.

Semi-related, which team is more disappointing this year? Nashville or New York? I honestly have a tough time answering that question myself. NYR is the obvious choice (President's Trophy/Conference Finalist to not a playoff team), but Nashville was a solid playoff team last year (WC1 with the same amount of points as 3rd in the Pacific and more points than 3rd in the Atlantic) that added Stamkos/Marchessault/Skjei and is 3rd worst in the entire NHL. The Canucks fall, while still dramatic, isn't as bad as those two to me.

odds got worse for CGY for sure, but still several scenarios to get in over either MIN or STL

CGY:
Fri 4/11 v MIN
Sun 4/13 v SJS
Tue 4/15 v VGK
Thu 4/17 @ LAK

MIN:
Fri 4/11 @ CGY
Sat 4/12 @ VAN
Tue 4/15 v ANA

STL:
Sat 4/12 @ SEA
Tue 4/15 v UTA

if CGY beats MIN tmrw things get more interesting
if STL loses either gm in reg then CGY can beat them outright with a W4 finish

You're absolutely right. I just have a hard time seeing a Calgary team that is 5-3-2 in their last 10 winning more than 2 of their remaining 4 games. And if they don't win at least 3, they're done no matter what, and that assumes that St. Louis loses both (which I think they'll win at least one and probably both) and that Minnesota loses all three.

Re: Perreault scratch

1. The Rangers absolutely deserve no benefit of the doubt with anything let alone developing highly-touted forwards
2. Scratching a young player who has just played a long NCAA season and is not used to the pace and physicality of the NHL to let them reset and learn a bit from the stands is not in of itself a bad thing
