Bruins got caved in by Nashville Predators of all teams.

As of now they tied with Ducks for 25th in the league in point %. That puts their 2nd rounder right in the ~40-41 range. Their next 5 games are... Canes, Bolts, Panthers, Sens and Bolts again. Their schedule gets easier after that but that's a really tough stretch when they are without McAvoy, H.Lindholm and Marchand.

Another top-40 pick would be nice.

Wow - he hasn't played centre for YEARS - I mean Nashville are bad but this can't be helping either lol

don;'t reallyt care if I'm being honest - but I always liked and respected Stamkos - dude's a goal scoring legend who could have had a shitload more if not for injuries

For a minute it looked like Stamkos was going to take the goal scoring crown from Ovie, but then he wrecked his leg and O came roaring back.
Stamkos had a chance early but the real separation came with Ovechkin's uncanny ability to sustain his goal scoring through his late 30s.

Ovechkin vs Stamkos (note that I'm using their 'age' season for these comparisons)

18 - 24 Comparison
Ovechkin had 269 goals (only 5 seasons)
Stamkos had 276 goals (7 seasons though one was prorated due to the 12-13 lockout)

25 - 29 Comparison
Ovechkin had 206 goals (one prorated due to 12-13 lockout)
Stamkos had 146 goals (lost most of 16-17 to injury)

30 - 34 Comparison (Stamkos is in his age 34 season; this is where Ovechkin blows Stamkos away)
Ovechkin had 231 goals
Stamkos has 151 (with about 20 games left in 24-25)

Note that Ovechkin has 178 goals in his 35-39 age seasons with about 20 games left in 24-25.

If 24-25 is a blip, Stamkos has a reasonable outside shot at 700. If it's not a blip, he'll probably land around 630 (assuming ~20 goals per season). Stammer is on pace for 24 goals this year with a reasonable shooting percentage (13.7%).

Bonus fun fact: If you give Ovechkin no credit for his three seasons prior to Stamkos entering the NHL, Ovechkin still leads 721 to 573.

I watched the preds/bruins game. Yeah it’s one game but I would take that ROR. Hard on the puck winning 1v1 battles and creating points of them. It’s what you want in the playoffs
He was also great for the Leafs in their playoff “run”. He was the 3C for them.

Brandon Carlo for their pick back could also be interesting. He’s an upgrade defensively over TvR and signed to a reasonable contract ($4.1M AAV through 2026-2027 which is his age 30 season). If Marchand wasn’t hurt I’d propose something around TvR and Boston’s 2025 2nd rounder for Carlo and Marchand.

If this was the Carlo of 2 or 3 years ago sure but he's fallen off a cliff.

Love this rumored move for Tampa.

At this point I think they should be the Cup favorite ...

Defensively his impacts look the same, but yeah his offense took a nosedive this year. I think his offensive nosedive can be at least in part attributed to bad luck rather than being bad himself.

Red line is expected, black line is actual. Brutal gap this year.

Huge deal between Tampa and Seattle. That’s a good haul for Seattle and a really good piece of business for Tampa who had some depth issues up front.

To Tampa Bay: Yanni Gourde, Oliver Bjorkstrand, 2026 5th

To Seattle: 2026 1st, 2027 1st, 2025 2nd, Mikey Eyssimont

That’s great the Tampa. But man they paid a lot. Like a lot a lot. They don’t have a first rounder til like the ‘30’s. They need to win now.

They gotta get thru Tor and Fla. Tough Sledding

Tampa will be total ass in a few years but they’ll have 15+ years of elite hockey + multiple Cups to dry their tears at night. Pretty good trade-off if you ask me.

It would be bad optics to sell at the deadline while still in a playoff position but long term it might be smart.

Anyway NJ is toast
