Czechia has won as many bests on best as the USA and Sweden.Wouldn't the Russian Players have to form their own team and name with no support from Russia's government? Czechia I'm not sure about.
Keller - Thompson - Robertson was right there.Matthews was great until the last play. Great setups all game and great looks in OT.
Hughes was a disappointment all tournament, and Eichel had a bad final game.
They'll need to find some replacements for Kreider/Nelson/Trocheck for the Olympics. Guys were unplayable.
They really could have used Quinn Hughes, though I thought outside of Fox their defensemen were largely good.
Hellebuyck the choker still a thing until it isn't.
You got that backwards. There won’t be hockey like that until April.yay! Back to meaningful hockey!
Yep I already mentioned that. It’s an NHL event….no KHL or Euro league guys….if you can’t fill a squad….can’t play. Will be interesting to see what they do for the next one after the Olympics. The problem with some of those smaller countries is that they aren’t going to have enough NHL contracted players to participate in an event like this. If they want to expand a “4 Nations” type tournament they’ll have to group some nations/players together if they keep it NHL only.
Side note: Matthew Tkachuk should not have played that game last night. He was clearly hurt and they said a groin injury I believe. Pretty difficult to try and skate with a groin issue. Can’t believe the Panthers let him even attempt to play.
I believe he is now 0-8 in deciding games. Not good for a top 5 player in the NHL.Fox in serious danger of missing the olympics IMO ...
Matthews unfortunately just doesn't have it. The US could've used some more guys with actual cup and deep playoff run experience
I'm starting to doubt AM34 is going to hit 1000 goals.I believe he is now 0-8 in deciding games. Not good for a top 5 player in the NHL.
Didn’t they win a series finally?I believe he is now 0-8 in deciding games. Not good for a top 5 player in the NHL.
This is why I ultimately landed on "glad no Caps are in the tourney." Any of our guys who might have made a national team would be completely irreplaceable if they came out with a lingering injury. The problem with some of those smaller countries is that they aren’t going to have enough NHL contracted players to participate in an event like this. If they want to expand a “4 Nations” type tournament they’ll have to group some nations/players together if they keep it NHL only.

Some intermission entertainment
Exactly, the first game against Canada, the huge hit by McAvoy was a direct result of Matthews back pressure on McDavid and forcing him towards the boards and right into McAvoy. His finishing was definitely hindered by whatever injury he has, but I came away impressed with Matthews overall game. Obviously he completely f***ed up on the winning goal.Eh, Matthews is dealing with some sort of injury. I thought he actually made some decent defensive plays.
Holy crap!
It's a better "mid-season exhibition" than the crusty old ASG, but they should've started it the day after the Super Bowl. That's my main gripe.
And yes, it would be good to have Russia there and one other. Maybe a Global team made up of players from all the remaining countries.
