That sucked. You can't really leave the best player in the world all alone like that. Hate that it was McD, but at least it wasn't Crosby. That would be intolerable.

IMO Binnington was the surprise difference. USA had the better of the play most of the third and OT, and he kept Canada in it.

I also thought the officials screwed the US out of an icing and probably a PP in OT, but whatevs.

I don't know about you all, but this tournament meant nothing to me, even had the US won. Glad it's over so we can get back to Caps Hockey again. The Trophy and Medals are kind of fake in a way. This doesn't have the prestige of the Olympics or Stanley Cup playoffs. It was just a placeholder special tournament instead of having the usual NHL All-Star Weekend. I'm still perplexed not one single Caps player was chosen for this tournament. There was a lot of missing talent with no Russian Team!

I would want the gold medal way more next season. And now we are pissed.

Canada super disciplined with their 0 penalties taken. 😂

This reminded me of an 2010s Caps playoff game.
Nothing new, as it's just more questionable officiating like in the NHL regular season and playoffs. Doesn't matter who won, but it is a taint to the game of hockey that basic calls were not called in the game. There is a rulebook for the game. If the officiating is not calling the game how it is written in the rulebook, then as fans we have very much right to discuss and complain about it. No hockey fan likes it when officiating of non calls has an effect on the game being played.

It should have been an icing call, but for some reason it was not called. Even though no Canadien player didn't touch the puck, they physically had too many men on the ice while the puck was still in play. Call the game as it is in the rulebook, other wise why are you evening having officiating to begin with! The obvious answer is Game Management, which is not what the Refs are supposed to be doing.

Fox in serious danger of missing the olympics IMO ...

Matthews unfortunately just doesn't have it. The US could've used some more guys with actual cup and deep playoff run experience

Fox needing to be sheltered against elite talent propably exposes him to all sorts of criticism that people have shrugged off for years because he's a Norris -winner. Good player he was for sure. On a steep decline right now, and has been for a year now.

Matthews was great until the last play. Great setups all game and great looks in OT.

Hughes was a disappointment all tournament, and Eichel had a bad final game.

They'll need to find some replacements for Kreider/Nelson/Trocheck for the Olympics. Guys were unplayable.

They really could have used Quinn Hughes, though I thought outside of Fox their defensemen were largely good.

Hellebuyck the choker still a thing until it isn't.

Fox, Trocheck, Kreider, Miller. So many shitty Rangers last night!
They were awful, and Hughes once again proving when the ice gets smaller and physicality ramps up, he has the toughness of Bambi on ice. Have never seen a player as good as he is get so easily removed from the puck / a play / entire stretches of the game by just leaning on him a bit. Brock Nelson was also brutal. Please stay far away from him at the deadline.

Great game and tournament. And I’m glad some things blew up in Guerin’s face because he’s a piece of shit and it’s embarrassing he’s associated with USA Hockey, let alone running the show. (Google: “Bill Guerin covers up sexual assault” if you’d like to learn more!)
