TB will make it for sure. No team with such a positive goal differential has ever missed.

Rags out. Sens in. Bruins out. Maybe CBJ except Monahan is out again. Hard to say for the last spot.

The margins are razor thin right now. Looking by points percentage (to even out GP),

Tampa is Atlantic 3 at .561
Ottawa is WC1 at .560
Columbus is WC2 at .550
Boston is first out at .538
and that tightness goes all the way to Philly, 14th in the conference, sitting at .510% (3 points back with CBJ holding one game in hand).

The only teams in the East that have separated themselves, negatively, are Buffalo and Pittsburgh. And even those two teams are one medium-sized points streak from being right back in the mix.

Tampa and NYR seem likely to me. In fact, the Devils (currently Metro 3 at .596) should be careful of NYR as they are just 4-3-3 in their last 10.

For the final spot, I have a hard time differentiating between everyone else. It's that close. My gut says CBJ ekes it out. They feel like a team of destiny this year.

Seattle had taken Vanacek, Accord, and Driedger in the expansion draft but "didn't expect Grubauer to make it to free agency"

Hmmm, damaged goods maybe?

He appears to lack separating speed with his acceleration and skating these days. He doesn’t seem to have enough dynamic force when skating the puck through the neutral zone which has hindered his ability to beat defenders one-on-one and create chances off the rush. NHL Edge data backs this up too: Pettersson was in the 88th percentile of NHL forwards for speed bursts above 20 miles per hour during his career-best 2022-23 season, but has cratered to the 53rd percentile this season.

That drop-off in his skating is especially notable because Pettersson dealt with knee tendonitis down the stretch last season, which coincides with the timing of his production falling off a cliff. There isn’t any reporting around Pettersson playing through an injury this season, but it’s fair to wonder if there have been any lingering effects.

Pettersson’s shooting rate has collapsed. And even when he is shooting, there’s been a noticeable drop-off in his shot velocity: Pettersson was in the 91st percentile of all forwards for average shot speed in 2022-23, but is down to the 59th percentile this season.

woof. with enough time, tendonitis turns into tendonosis. joint remains inflamed and degeneration rampages the rest. first person experience here. knee replacement inevitable. sports gone forever

I've never been wild about Petterson. He's got undeniable talent, but he also gives that old fashioned soft Euro vibe. Add this injury talk, his $11+M salary, and the likely acquisition price and it's a pass from me. Rather have Miller's sometimes-over-the-top compete and passion, all else being equal.

Wow, the Flyers assets really had next to no value.

CGY 2nd round pick is obviously a nice asset but really that's all they got for both Farabee and Frost? Cap dump in Kuzmenko, guy who just cleared waivers, that 2nd rounder and 7th round pick in 2028? Nice asset management.

I do wonder if this means Philly is back in on JT Miller. They moved another center (Frost) in this deal and their C depth right now is Couturier, Laughton, Cates and some guy named Rodrigo Abols.

Sounds like someone who's friends with Iñigo Montoya.

Miller to Rags

The Vancouver Canucks are in agreement on a trade that will send forward J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.

Johnston can confirm that forward Filip Chytil and defenceman will be headed to Vancouver as part of the deal for Miller.

That’s like us giving a first Lapierre and Mangiapane. I think miller only wanted to go to nyr though .

Rangers had to give up a first rounder that could end up being pretty valuable, but it looks like they have protections on it.

Hope Miller likes his new life with Lavi
