It’s a big bet by Carolina. Can they even afford to give Mikko what he wants?
Yea, they apparently have a ton of cap space. They’ve been waiting to throw money at a big star for several years. They tried with Guentzel, but couldn’t get him to stay. Yet still let both Skjei and Pesce walk. They have internal options coming to replace Orlov.

So, sounds like if they want to go crazy with something like 14M x 8, they can afford it. Plus Mikko and Aho are sorta buddies so maybe that helps.

Good on them for selling high on Necas, a guy that wasn’t necessarily in their long term plans anyways. Sucks for the rest of us in the Metro though. Who knows, maybe Mikko will hate having to forecheck and play D for Rod. 😉

Their current projected cap hit for next year is 56.8M with 13 active roster players already signed. If the cap goes up to 92.5M as expected and they sign Rantanen for 14M/year, that leaves them with 21.7M for the remaining 8-9 players to fill out their roster. Oddly enough they have nobody on their active roster going to RFA this summer, and most of their UFAs are fairly inconsequential, but the big ones they'll need to replace are their #2 and #3 defensemen, Burns and Orlov. Andersen's also a UFA, but it seems like Kochetkov's gonna be their starter going forward so I assume they'll replace him with a backup type.

So unfortunately, I think they can do it. They'll have to keep cheaping out on goaltending though, and possibly on defense.

You are all forgetting the important part: we hate the Canes and Rod - boo, this deal sucks!

(I am disappointed Rantanen landed there. One of my fav players and I really didn't expect him to leave the Avs)

North Carolina seems like a good place to live on a median salary. Now if I were making 10 million a year there are many better options.

I lived in Raleigh for 8 years. My first 8 out of college so it was great. Had season tickets to ECHL Raleigh IceCaps. Was an inaugural season ticket holder for Canes before moving to Charlotte. This was early 90’s so Raleigh was kinda redneck. Got some hillbilly in me. Still have that after drinking a bunch of the brown (or enjoying the green).

Hmmm I think you do what you can to lock him up, but I don’t know what that market looks like. Different beast.
This is the thing. They probably had to choose and Rantenen came first. Sounds like he was sticking to their guns and so they rightfully moved him. Maker also crazy good and at a tougher position to differentiate in so yeah, they will resign him and it is probably 10M+. so they take down one of the two. And they get a young Necas. I think it is well done by Colorado.

Saw this happen in real time and thought Panarin must have pulled a muscle or something. Total dogshit effort from one of your leaders, he’d be in the press box the next game if I was Lavi.

NSFW

It depends on how long he’d been on shift. If that’s 75-90 seconds in, then OK.

If it was in the first 30 seconds? Then Ohhhhhh. Crap 😂

Rangers suck, Avery sucks, they can all go to hell.

Unfortunately the Rongos look like they are going to be in the playoffs by the end of the season. What a shame

he doesn't have medical insurance? someone fill me in here. uncle ted cheap out or something else?

Insurance companies are in the business of denying coverage for their customers. That's how they make money. Kind of an odd system when you think about it. Sets up some really perverse incentives!
