League News: NHL Talk - (News n' Scores n' Stuff) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

A few teams going through the struggle right now. New Jersey lost four straight including losses to San Jose and Anaheim before edging out Seattle last night. The Lightning and Bruins have lost four straight. Pittsburgh and Winnipeg have lost three straight. Every team will go through rough patches over the course of 82 games.
January is basically the 'dog days' of the NHL season. We're still quite a ways from the playoffs, but we're a decent chunk into the season.

The Caps are definitely in a mini-slump, but I would be far more concerned if this late Feb/March.

I don't even know that I call it a slump. They're 5-3-2 in their last 10 games and their longest losing streak is two games. They're inconsistent right now but no more so than other teams around the league.

I agree on record. Their underlying play is definitely in a slump though. They have struggled to win the xG battle (I use moneypuck) in pretty much all of their recent games. Even when they have won that battle, they've lost the 5 on 5 battle (Boston on NYE is a good example) whereas earlier in the year they were dominating.

December 16 is the last time the Caps won the xGF battle at 5 on 5 by more than half a goal (ironically a game they lost).

Not that I expect the Caps to dominate the xGF battle every game, but I also don't like losing it handily to teams like Buffalo and Detroit.

I think moneypuck had them with a clear advantage in the “Deserve to win-o-meter” vs the Rangers but yeah, it’s been a mixed back. They’re definitely not overpowering teams on a consistent basis like they were but to me that’s expected.

I don't even know if those Leafs fans were taunting anyone. They're not even looking at that guy as he's walking down. I read somewhere they were waving to friends up in the stands, but need to see another video if possible.
hell, it doesn't matter anyway.

everybody paid for their tickets, everybody has the same right to celebrate what's happening on the ice without getting punched in the head.

the only people who should be on sight like that are Nazis so unless this guy is saying some truly vile shit there's just no excuse good enough. I know you're not sticking up for the goon or anything but he could be doing double birds and it still shouldn't matter

I'm not saying there's an excuse I'm trying to get the facts. The assumption so far has been this guy was responding to taunts. If not true that makes him even more of an asshole.

I know that, it's just to me it genuinely doesn't matter if he was taunted or not. High quality USDA approved asshole through and through unless he's shutting up some of the actual worst shit you can say (and I don't think that's the case at all)

Belatedly agreeing with this take. But I also think, especially when you look at the best of the West, the Caps are at a serious high-end talent disadvantage come playoff time. They're unlikley to look at a big-name rental, but barring a massive CMM resurgence, I think they need to aim to add another scoring threat before the TDL.

Dylan Sprong did just get waived....:sarcasm:

This Elias Petersson/JT Miller beef better be over something legit. Just an absolutely wild story that these two can’t stand each other to the point that the Canucks will have to deal one or maybe even both. I’ve been on teams with plenty of guys I don’t like but you just have to tolerate them and go about your own business. The whole thing just seems so childish

Was thinking the same. What could they possibly have beef over that it’s spilled over into their GM calling out EP needing to mature to the media? Hell my peewee coaches used to tell us we didn’t have to like everyone on the team but we had to respect everyone.

I do know of a current NHL player who was jettisoned from his team for banging a teammate’s wife. So, yeah, in that case I get it
