Almost Canada
But the consequences are stepped up - it's his 3rd time in, so he can't be reinstated for at least 6 months, and he doesn't get paid during that time.
some tough love, but also a recognition that he needs more intensive help, I imagine.

Was it that he was using or that he got caught moving it? Because I thought I remembered something about him being caught coming back in from Canada and that could technically be a different offense as far as termination goes.
My recollection as well.

Maybe he needs help. Some call me wok. I lean right. But people have some deamons. Some make excuses. Some attack it. Important for all to look at both. Lift those up who are trying. But give tough love. They need it. They want it.

back to hockey. Winning matters!

Jeez these final 8 teams are all putting up a fight (except Colorado which is pissing me off).

Boston fought back - hopefully they lose next game.
Canes fighting back - would love to see them reverse sweep the Rags.
Oilers and Canucks much closer series than I thought it would be. Definitely a smart move giving Pickard the start tonight.
I think Colorado are toast. They have looked awful the last couple of games and Dallas seem to know exactly how to shut them down now.

Avs got away from playing good team defense, and Kuemper/Francouz were better than Gorgiev has shown.

A lot of dumb teams in the NHL nowadays in regard to keeping it tied or holding a lead very late in the game.

I don't think Georgiev was the problem in game 4. A lot of Avs fans were saying he was the ONLY one who played well and his team's heads were somewhere else - gee I wonder where?

Dallas seem to be very well coached and are able to play that awful trapping style that stops teams getting decent o-zone time. It helps that Oettinger is playing really well also - after having a shaky few games against Vegas.

I don't think Pickard is a better goalie than Skinner?? But playoff nerves can wreak havoc with some of these starting goalies. I think a lot of the time you'll see a backup / rookie etc get an opportunity and they really shine. Silovs is doing it in Vancouver. Pickard was good tonight but save percentage of .900 isn't setting the world on fire either.

When Skinner is rocking .793 through three games (.877 for the playoffs), .900 is a huge improvement. Teams have won cups on similar goaltending if the guys up front can score enough.

Kuemper was .902 with Colorado the year they won.

Regarding Georgiev, I do not believe in him as a playoff-level starter, but he's also not the sole reason why they are losing.

Disagree a bit. Gorgiev was barely holding his SV% above .900 all season! He was not happy playing for the Rangers both backing up Lundqvist and Shesterkin over the years. He wanted to be a #1 goalie and he got his chance with the Avs. Take way his wins and his numbers were not good for a #1 goalie this season. Both last season, regular and playoffs, his numbers were a good deal better.

As a goalie, I never use my team in front of me as an excuse. If your team has some very noticeable flaws, as a goalie you ramp your game up and take it upon yourself to play better. Gorgiev has looked like a placeholder #1 goalie for Avs and not the good goalie he was last season. Maybe sophomore slump or maybe this is who he is?

There seems to be a lack of killer instinct in these playoffs. Avs just won 5-3 in Dallas to make the series 3-2 and Game 6 back in Colorado. Series that should have already been done, will most likely go to Game 7's.

Game 5 up 3-1 is always hard to win. Rangers, Stars and Panthers all lost it.

Just think of top of the world players on their last chance of the season and the players that have 3 more.

In 32 Thoughts Friedman said he wouldn't be surprised if the Jets talk to Hershey Bears coach Todd Nelson about their coaching vacancy. Cheveldayoff has ties to Todd Nelson.

It's very interesting - I could make the argument either way.

I was not a big believer in him coming into Colorado. He put up .908 sv% career as a backup with NYR, with his best year, from a sv% perspective, coming as a rookie. He was at .898 his last year there.

And then last season, he had a strong bounceback year with .918 during the regular season and a still respectable .914 during the postseason which made me look like a moron. But this year, as you pointed out, he put up .897 during the regular season and is even lower (.886) during the postseason.

Colorado needs to figure out, quickly, if Georgiev or Annunen or Prosvetov can be the guy. If not, they need to figure that out fast. Feels a little akin to GMBM handing the Caps over to VV/IS late in the Ovechkin era.
