i agree hamilton is also a good spot but i dont see it happening until Quebec has a franchise first and this wont happen till the league is balanced Meaning two more team out west. I read on twitter that the owener of the portland basketball team stated he wanted to get a nhl team there to help costs of his area. Not sure how accrute but its some hope for there.

I agree on Quebec, though with that new arena, i think the push will be sooner rather than later to get them a team. Same goes with Portland though too.

And Vegas I think would be a good idea to get in there before any other major sport does (of baseball, football, basketball and hockey).

i think the nhl would also rather have expansion fees then relocation of current teams. 800 million can help support any teams needing it for as long as it needs. I think they would do this rather than waste a relocation spot. I also see kanas city as a possible site but agree to get into vegas first Its would so sell out areas with tickets from all the casinos to comp there guests with. I'm sure some sorta gambling agreement could be worked out for that to stop.

The shine is off him a bit, I agree, but a cup appearance in 2012 is pretty recent success as well.

At this level of finances, I don't think there's much a GM can do. When the article references 230 million in debt, that's beyond having a 55 million vs. a 65 million payroll.

As much trouble as the Devils have had with the cap, it's easy to forget that in eight post-lockout seasons they've made the playoffs six times and won a tough division in four of those first five years. It hasn't been pretty at times, but most teams would take that.

The drafting hasn't been great over the last decade or so, but I think in general GMs get too much blame/credit for picks. Most GMs defer to their head scouts. We'll see if the decision to keep the 2012 1st rounder ends up being a bad decision or a historically bad decision.

Agreed. The GMès credit ends with who they hire as Director of Amateur Scouting and possibly Head Scout, as well as with their first round pick sometimes. Most of the time, anyone drafted outside the 1st round, the GM has either never seen the player, or happened to see the player as a byproduct of either scouting someone else or checking up on one the teams already drafted players.

Drafting successéfailure lies mainly with whom the GM has set up to manage that department.
