If Kopitar gets $9mio its absolutely fine.

Cap is $64.3m. Say next year its $71mio (6.7mio increase) and another linear increase in 2016. The cap then become $77.7mio in 2016-17 season. Compare to present cap its roughly a 20% increase in cap room. So if you project Kopitar salary +20% increase, "for inflation", then his salary should be $8.16mio in 2016-17 to take similar percentage of cap space. So a $9mio salary only means, technically he is getting only a 840k raise

Kopitar's next contract will take him up to 36 and he will have already made over 50 mil by the time he signs the contract.

Anze's contract progressively grew
$6,000,000
$6,000,000
$6,400,000
$6,500,000
$7,500,000
$7,500,000
$7,500,000

I think he might touch 8 or close to it early in the deal, then it'll start trending downward.(Brown's does the same thing BTW)
This is Brown's deal

$7,250,000
$7,250,000

$6,500,000
$5,500,000
$5,500,000
$4,000,000

I think Kopitar's will look like this

Man you guys should all be accountants. All those numbers make my head spin. I personally am not worried what Kopitar signs for. I think unless there is a major shake up in ownership/management or decline in his play, he'll be a King for life. That is good enough for me.

If Kopi were to take a huge discount, not only will that resonate within our locker room and the organization, but throughout the nhl. Imagine signing FAs for a lot less than their FMV. That could be a reality.
