NHL preparing for Gary Bettman’s retirement in “a couple years”

I think he had his time where he did good things but I also think in the 2020's, it needs a new voice.

Unfortunately, I think all that will happen is he will retire and Daly will take over, it needs new vision to push the sport forward.

That has more to do with skate and stick technology than it does Bettman. It took Gary 10 years and his second lockout before the league addressed clutch and grab hockey that was negating a lot of what his star players could do on the ice.
I didn’t say that was Bettman’s doing. The OP said the game now is “utter shit” and that was one of my counter points.

Bill Daly likely takes over and nothing changes. Hardly even worth discussing.
Yep. Folks seem to forget that Bettman and his heirs are little more than the mouthpieces of the owners, or the goat that the owners put into the barnyard to draw fleas if you prefer that analogy. Bettman does absolutely nothing that the owners disagree with, including the owners of the teams of the fans who dislike him the most, but they would rather villanize Bettman than criticize their own owners who are actually pulling on the strings.

Pretty much. Most that commissioners can do is try to convince the owners to go in a certain direction if there is pushback, but nobody is going to do anything that the owners aren't in favor of.
