Lou is in his 80s and still working, I wonder if this has more to do with parkinsons, Bettman has been shaking alot and has denied having it but I wonder if he really does and he has to retire earlier because of it. he has been shaking more and more as the years have gone on.

Im happy I got to boo this man atleast once, don't overly like him but don't hate him and it was alot of fun booing, I also think he enjoyed the booing as it kinda became a thing
If you watch, I think it was the press conferance for the announsment for Utah, he made fun of that, it was quite funny actually.
But yeah shaking a lot, Im not in to medicin, but maybe there is a host of issues that it could be? and not Parkinson?

Sorry for the prenounciution...(yeah including that word.. :)

They should do a lockout in his honor.
Brilliant! Bravo! lol

who really knows, could be something different for sure but I have to wonder if it's related to him retiring. thing is it's not even early. right around the time you should consider retiring. still wonder if it's related to the increased shaking over the years. I recall seeing a comment that people noticing him shaking abit even like 20+ years ago.

eitherway I wish him a happy retirement, No More Lockouts!

Why did you post a picture of Marchand?

The 'essence' will be transferred to a new 'host' body in some weird ritual/ceremony and everything will resume as normal. Pretty sure it's preformed in the basement of the HHoF.
Beautiful Comment, reminded me of a comment I saw on Youtube about when Bettman held the Draft Lottery(Its a must watch, an absolute gem in the history of NHL) someone said, "Filmed in the same studio as the moon landing" As im getting older, Comedies are seldom funny, the only real and genuine laugh i get is from golden comments like these.

link, im not sure this is the year i was reffering to, but they are all gold.

How will the haters cope when he leaves the league in the richest position its ever been for owners and players alike. Not to mention there is great parity in the NHL now. Y'all must be seething at the fact he will be remembered as a great commissioner :)

Hopefully they've learned from Adam Silver's disastrous tenure and don't overindulge short-term fads. Nobody with a brain in their skull can say Gary Bettman has been bad for the league. He's consistently played the long game, and while yes, there was pain at points, it's 90% worked out.

If you are an owner, Bettman has done a hell of a job. How much the league has expanded and grown new markets that people completely laughed and scoffed at initially (California and Florida for example), the amount revenues have increased, and franchise values have increased since the cap system was instituted is great. It doesn't mean everything is better for the fan sitting at home and watching hockey on TV but for what his job is, he certainly has done great.

The cognitive dissonance around Bettman is something else. He's somehow a glorified spokesman for the mysterious and all powerful board of governors but also at the same time, he alone deserves all the credit for whatever success the league has had over his tenure.

That's great stuff lol. Very convenient; all the credit with zero responsibility. Who wouldn't want to be paid 11M+ a year for a job like that.

GAry has been more tolerable lately, haven't really had a reason to hate him since 2004

the league will never lock out again
You are putting to much stock into the nhlpa not being babbling buffoons, we are 20 years removed since the biggest season lost due to a lockout and revenue sharing has been introduced. And the players still do not understand why they have to pay back money at the end of each season when they go over the 50% mark for revenue.

On a whole, Bettman has been a fantastic Commissioner. Nobody is perfect and he's certainly made some mistakes. I don't like his old school mentality and I do think it's time for the NHL to get some new fresh blood into their offices who're more in touch with today's culture. But I don't know how anyone can say he's been a bad commissioner. The league has become an absolute success and a major sports league in the world.

Hope he retires today.

His goal has been to make the product as bad as possible.

The second he’s gone will be a great day for the NHL.

This honestly almost makes sense.
He'd probably be better in that role than as the GM of a team.

My hope is Mike Gillis. But he's also getting up there in age.
He would probably be better in any role than as the GM of a team... But that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a disaster....

He’s just a glorified figure head for the BoG. As will be the next commissioner

Why do people keep repeating this falsehood?

You don't pay a figurehead $10 million a year. It's been well established is the one providing the overall vision for the league and getting the owners on board. There's been an entire book written on the subject.

By the owners.

As a fan of hockey, I don't care how rich the owners are getting.

He should be remembered as someone who dragged the NHL out of the stoneage, caused more lost games than any commissioner of any major sport, made the owners a ton of money, consistently lied to the fans, did a lot of bad things to the game of hockey, and is right up there with tobacco executives in his CTE denials.
