NHL Playoff Schedule Information Thread

I thought they were using allegiant why can't t mobile be used

Busy week as others alluded to. T-Mobile has Smackdown on Friday (5pm local), NXT on Saturday morning (should wrap up around 1pm local), and then Raw on Monday night (5pm).

I can't say I know the exact logistics, but it seems feasible that they could transform the rink after NXT and have it ready for a Sunday night game, and then reconstruct for Raw. Definitely seems like a pain and as others pointed out, some of WWE's crew may be preoccupied with WrestleMania at Allegiant.

Easter game yessss

Jesus is overrated anyways.

I have a good memory of going to Kings/Wings game 3 on Easter Sunday 2001. If I recall correctly it was a really late start (8 or 8:30pm) because the Lakers had a game earlier that day. I must have gotten back to San Diego super late and then I drove back up a couple days later when a different buddy wanted to go to Game 4. Either I was on Spring Break or I had more free time in college than I remembered.

After looking it up, the Lakers had a regular season game with a peculiar 2:30pm local start time. Maybe because of Easter?

Toronto/Ottawa, Florida/Tampa, and Carolina/NJ all playing at the same time (albeit staggered starts) on Tuesday? Nice job NHL.

Why doesn't the NHL make Toronto or Montreal drop the puck at 8:50 PM local time? Why does the Central always need to be the ones? Hmmm
The two central teams play on the same day, but you do you boo and complain about Mtl/Tor like usual

“Game 5: Avalanche at Stars, Monday, Arpil 27, TBD *”

“Game 6: Maple Leafs at Senators, Friday, May 1, TBD *”

Having multiple day of the week errors, and spelling error on nhl.com’s official press release is actually pathetic. Come on now.

Arena availability can sometimes make things pretty screwy in the first round. Amalie Arena has no non-hockey events until Saturday the 26th though, so I don't know what's going on with that.
TV. Before Rogers had exclusivity in Canada, the different networks were given a priority order and essentially did a fantasy draft of what series they wanted in he first round. I imagine the same is done with ESPN and TNT

The Jets getting early starts in both their home games is something that I didn't expect to happen. Great for the whiteout parties.

Winnipeg getting all their games on CBC, while Montreal's Monday game is on Rogers is another one I never saw coming.

Some pretty brutal start times in there. I wonder how NHLPA feels about the disadvantages some teams have compared to others. Can't say it's what the people wanted, just the bosses in high offices.

I also wonder how the NHLPA feels about it. It sucks for us hardcore fans (which we pretty much are by definition by posting on a hockey message board), and people going to the game. The NHL can get away with taking us for granted though. They're chasing the casual viewer to increase total viewership, and it's apparently working out in that regard.

48% of US population lives in Eastern Time Zone, 29% in Central.
Still with a change in the playoff format, divisional playoffs, you can guarantee MST or PST starts for double headers. There is no reason why you can't have games overlap, 7EST, 7CST,7:30 MST/7-7:30 PST.

People complaining about the start times really don't get how many factors are at play. Certain games needing to be on certain days cause of arena availability, staggered starts, and the TV networks having a say at what they think is best for ratings.

Not quite as simple as one person making a spreadsheet and saying yup looks good

It’s to get certain series to line up to have games on certain days. They want Ottawa-Toronto to line up for the following Saturday for Sportsnet and for the Habs and Leafs to go on opposite days. Also, the NFL draft is the following Thursday so they only have television slots that night across on espn2 and tbs. They also want the following Monday to have a Game 4 to ensure that night is filled.

They also want puzzle that is putting the schedule together landed on 3 eastern time zone games on Tuesday. TBS has baseball and TNT has the NBA, so they had to squeeze a triple header on ESPN in order to get all the games on national TV.
