NHL Playoff Schedule Information Thread

The Jets will likely not be a *late* start (typo) on Saturday. Leafs, Caps and Senators all play on Thursday, Jets last game is Wednesday. Doubt they're going to have any of the Thursday teams play Saturday. Kings play Thursday too.

After that though? Yeah, likely 830 local time starts as the central division gets screwed over.
It would be nice to have a prime time Winnipeg Jets hockey game aired coast to coast on CBC/HNIC once this year. Saturday seems like a good chance. After that yes expect late starts, and some possible afternoon weekend games.

Bettman has the power to force Vegas to start the series on the road. It's just not possible to wait until Tuesday to play game 1. Its entirely their fault for letting a phony wrestling show take over their place for 4 days. Who even watches that crap anymore? I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and it looked like a bunch of 5'7 boys doing gymnastics/cirque du soleil. Completely embarrassing.

Dude, this just reeks of ignorance. The only ting that's embarrassing is your response.

More people watch WWE Raw and Smackdown than national broadcasts for the NHL and MLB. Their TV deal with Netflix is paying WWE 5B over 10 years for 2.5-3 hours a week of programming in the US.

Vegas pretty much has to start the 20th. WWE has Tmobile booked the 19th and 21st.

Safe bet the Kings start Saturday. The NBA is going to make sure the Lakers are playing a Sunday matinee.

WWE in Vegas schedule this weekend:

Fri Apr 18 - Smackdown @ 4:30 PM (T-Mobile Arena)
Sat Apr 19 - NXT Stand and Deliver @ 9:30 AM (T-Mobile Arena)
Sat Apr 19 - Wrestlemania Night 1 @ 4:00 PM (Allegiant Arena)
Sun Apr 20 - Wrestlemania Night 2 @ 4:00 PM (Allegiant Arena)
Mon Apr 21 - Raw @ 4:30 PM (T-Mobile Arena)

Considering the Saturday event at T-Mobile is at 9:30 AM and would be done by 12:30/1:00 PM at the latest, doesn't that give enough time for a 7:00 PM start for the Golden Knights?

Just wondering.

Should be more than enough time, I would think. The Staples Center once hosted an NBA playoff game that I think started at 1:00 p.m. or so and then had a Kings playoff game later that evening. Also, what I've heard is that if an arena is hosting two events in the same day and one of them is a hockey game, it's easier to switch over to the hockey setup from the first event than it is the other way around. I wouldn't imagine that the latter is impossible, but if it's a playoff game, the indefinite overtime duration could be a problem for the later event if they tried to put the hockey game first.

There is a MASSIVE difference between the setup/take down for basketball compared to wrestling. It's estimated that it takes at least 5-6 hours to setup/take down for one of their TV events.... also ice is taken out for wrestling events.... there is zero chance they can flood the rink and have it to even play Sunday... T-Mobile may not be able to host a game until Wednesday because of the ice.

Huh, good to know. It'll be interesting to see how things unfold then. I wonder if they can somehow punt the WWE event to a different venue. Don't know enough about Las Vegas to know if that's even realistic or not. Someone else floated the idea that the league could make the series start on the road, in which case if that were to somehow happen, how they'd handle giving the Knights the extra home game they're entitled to by having home ice advantage.

Knowing the NHL they'll just wait until Tuesday/Wednesday to start the series and make games 1 and 2 a back to back though.

Absolutely 0 chance WWE gets bumped. Vegas paid a fortune to get WrestleMania weekend and all the events involved, this is the biggest event in the industry and they make it a whole extravaganza, not to mention smaller promotions capitalize on the weekend too and fill up the other venues. In terms of how busy the city gets, it's probably a bigger weekend than the Superbowl. Honestly it's like a 2-day Superbowl being the centerpiece of a wrestling convention that dominates the city for 4 days

If they made Vegas start on the road, they could do 2-3-1-1. Vegas would still be guaranteed their 2 home dates and would still get games 5 and 7.

With Vegas not having access to T Mobile till Tuesday cause of WWE, is it possible they will have to play back to back on Tuesday and Wednesday to catch them up with the rest of the series going on?

As I said above, I'm not sure they can have ice ready for Tuesday. I know when they have to do all the painting and shit it's a 3-4 day process. Just ice, I'm not sure about just ice... it might be letting the paint dry that take so long. But hopefully available Tuesday

No way it is possible.
They have been building the wrestlemania stage and whatnot for at least a week already.
It would optimistic for the series to even begin on Tuesday in Vegas in my opinion.

I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Vegas misses out on a home playoff game.

Game 1: road
Game 2: Vegas
Game 3: road
Game 4: road
Game 5: vegas
Game 6: road
Game 7: vegas

Gary has the authority to do this. You want to loan out your arena for 5 days right as the playoff begins? For some phony wrasslin? Fine but you’re losing a home game. I’d love to see it happen.

Dallas/Colorado basically guaranteed to start Saturday in the first game on TNT.

I'm gonna guess Vegas' series starts on Sunday.

LA gets the short end of the stick and has to play Saturday night for the 2nd TNT game.

Winnipeg won't start until Monday because ESPN will prefer Florida/Tampa for their Sunday window.

Why is ice taken out, seems odd. I can’t see that, they then need to repaint logos and lines all over.
They usually put down a layer of plywood.

Not sure how WWE works but for basketball games they put the court on top of the ice. Would imagine it's the same.

G1 will be the 20th and G2 the 22nd.

A 2-3-1-1 makes so much more sense

Winnipeg won't start Monday they will get a weekend game. The schedule certainly fits to have all the Central teams start Saturday, if applying 3 days rest standardly. The networks probably try to squeeze another one out. Could be Toronto-Ottawa since they have the least amount of travel of all the teams.

Likely to get 4 games Sunday, Kings as the late game.

I think it is confirmed that Toronto-Ottawa won't be a Saturday start. Either Sunday or Monday.
