David Schlemko did not play in the ECHL, but he did play in the CHL which later went defunct and some of the teams were absorbed into the ECHL.
Marty Frk spent some time there, though he may not be a NHLer in two years
So I made a YouTube video compiling 5 NHL players that at one point or another played in the ECHL.
Anyway I wanted to pose the question, what NHL players at one point or another defied the odds and made the NHL and had a lengthy career after playing in the ECHL?
Here's the link to the video if you wanted to give it a watch and support me:

Is your video still up somewhere? What a blast from the past, damn. Fantastic bump.
It got taken down a few years ago because of copyright. I used clips from NHL games, and the NHL didn’t like that. I think it’s lost media now, the backup was on an old PC that doesn’t work anymore. Is your video still up somewhere?
Ah bummer. Weird that some highlight videos get take down but others don’t.It got taken down a few years ago because of copyright. I used clips from NHL games, and the NHL didn’t like that. I think it’s lost media now, the backup was on an old PC that doesn’t work anymore.
I'm pretty sure there was a topic about this just a couple of weeks ago, but I cant find it. Too bad your video was lost.It got taken down a few years ago because of copyright. Official Site of The ECHL | Alumni says there are 768 of them, including many NHL regulars.
Edit: yep!
Flames only had 3 play for Rapid City too and one of the we signed at the TDLAnd now that the ECHL has dedicated itself as a developmental league and all teams are NHL affiliated, I'd bet that the number increase much faster than in the early days of the league. The only thing really holding it back is the NHL contract limit, you've got 23 on the NHL roster, another 20+ in the AHL, and that only leaves around 3-5 contracts for the ECHL.
Looking at my team the Fort Wayne Komets, the Edmonton Oilers only have three Komets players under contract and two of them are goalies. My NHL team Nashville Predators only have two players under contract with the Atlanta Gladiators.
If the NHL would ever increase the allotment, it could really boost the ECHL even going up to 55 contracts would probably more than double the number of NHL affiliated players in the ECHL.
All that said, the ECHL is still such a fun league to follow, the games are highly entertaining and all of the fans and players are super passionate about it. There's no corporate suits in the stands, and no players coasting for a paycheck.
DD was the worst thing to ever happen to the Canadiens, worse than the Roy trade.David Desharnais played 68 ECHL games in 07-08. I feel it's quite significant for a player that played 500+ NHL games.
