NHL Player Derek Morris Appreciation Thread

Props to Dmo, welcome him back anytime as an injury/ insurance policy....hopefully he signs a tradeable contract elsewhere.

Wish him the best. He was an excellent player and representative for the organization. Hope he goes to a place he decides he wants to finish his career at. Too bad it will not be Phoenix.

Good luck #53.

Hate to lose a player who professed loyalty to the franchise and the market - Phoenix has been exceedingly bereft of such players outside of Shane Doan - but the writing was on the wall.

I loved watching him watch his kids play during the intermission mites games at the Job.

I'm glad I was around to see DMo play for us and hope he gets a nice contract somewhere for next year.

He's already been back once. I'm definitely in favor of letting him walk this summer, but I hope there's a place for him in this organization once he's hung up his skates.

Flyers fan here coming to see what the story was with Morris now that it seems like Kimmo Timonen won't play this season due to blood clots.

Do you think he would accept a one year, $2 million deal to play in Philly? That's all the Flyers can afford.

I think Morris would accept that contract if it were offered.

Probably;

But didn't they just sign MDZ?

I see him fitting in well over there, and could play a pretty important role if he regained his form from the beginning of the season. His family issues really messed him up over the course of the season.

Will def miss DMo of old, when he was a great half of the pairing with Yandle.

Many terrific DMo moments on the ice........but will always remember him best for walking into the COG meeting met by a great ovation. For me, that was the moment when I knew they were staying. Great sign of leadership and respect for the fans.....and speaks volumes to the quality person he is.

Hope to see him back as a coach.

Thank you DMo!!

Yeah, I remember seeing him there while watching the live stream. Would be hard to see him on any other team..but I wish the best for him.

Exactly, early on in last season, I thought that he had a spot on the team next year for sure. But then came his father issues, and then the wheels just fell off.

Hope he can work out whatever personal issues he had this past season, and become a force again, just stay out of the Pacific. He still has a good 1/3 of his career left to be a very useful 2-way D in this league, if he can get his act together again.

A quick question from the NYI board...has anyone read or heard any new Morris rumors?

He'd be a decent fit in Edmonton, I'd think.

I was just looking through some video and then looked him up, apparently he didn't play anywhere last season. Did he retire? I would definitely be open to inviting him to camp if he's still interested in playing.

He's married with 3 kids and coaches a team in Scottsdale, so I can't imagine he's just itching to get back in the league. Heck of a player who we missed badly last year, especially when Z was out of the lineup ... one of those guys like Pronger or Chelios who would be equally comfortable at the World Championships with Team Canada or in the Federal League with the Hanson Brothers. Take him on my team any time.

We missed a player like him, but not him. That ship has sailed into the sunset.

Thanks, it sounds like he's happy which is great.

D-Mo was great in his prime, but horribly inconsistent the last 3 consecutive seasons he played.

IMO it's easy to conclude that there's no way he can play in the NHL amymore. Best of luck to him going forward though.

Wish he would take a coaching job with the organization. Dude was a great defender in his day. He's also an amazing fitness example. I remember his last season here, he was coming off a slower, more mediocre season the year prior. He came back like 20 pounds lighter and was faster and more physical than i have ever seen him.

I think Morris would make a great coach as well. He seems to be getting his feet wet with minor hockey (kids) coaching from what Primrose has said. Maybe at some point he can take an AHL job or NHL assistant job.

A lot of former players spend 5 years or so watching their kids grow up. Then they take jobs with orgs.

Wasn't he one of the coaches of the Pee-Wee teams that won up in Quebec?

I opened this thread waiting for the jokes to appear.... Geeze I want you guys to speak at my funeral.
(you all said such nice things... sniff sniff )
