the commercial is supposed to be a marketing ploy to market there stars but they only show it during nhl broadcast. If you’re finally trying to get your players out there why aren’t they showing during non hockey broadcasts? You’re just marketing to your base. Is the nhl this blind?

1.) A lot of advertising and marketing isn’t to acquire new customers but rather to get you existing customers to buy / consume more. These ads fall in the latter category. The point is to try and get people already interested to watch more.

2.) Running these ads during other programming cost real money. These costs an opportunity costs as it’s their programming so they get the space for free.

Nike did them the best.

The old naslund/Kovalchuk ads were fantastic.

Before that, the fedorov one where it's like 1 vs 20 before getting steamrolled by a zamboni.

And of course the goalie ads.

The nhl has never matched those but the history will be made promos from around 2010 were pretty damn cool. Honorable mention to the frozen pictures coming to life before that.
