I would be shocked.

New Orleans would be the smallest MSA in the NHL. Buffalo and SLC are the two current smallest.

It would smaller than every Canadian metro except Winnipeg. And Winnipeg will likely overtake it in population in the next 5 years.

Having two major sports to compete with hurts a lot too.

I can totally see the NHL going to Atlanta or Phoenix again. Houston is inevitable. But NO is a fraction the size and wealth.

Hockey is closer to Basketball than it is Football and NO is historically one of the cheapest, worst run organizations in the League. This would be horrendous. Kansas City would do much better imo

NO would be a big mistake.
When it comes to the south,.
Atlanta, I could see
San Antonio or Austin, I could see

San Antonio is SSE.....and that basically was annexed twice by Vegas..... between the Aces and the Henderson Silver Knights Austin is also unlikely because it'd be like Kentucky and Louisville with few arena options

Arizona used to be Cowboys country.
Then they brought in the Cardinals
Now I'm sure there's still a lot of Cowboy fans, but not like there was.
Austin it is.

Utah, once the novelty wears off….
So of the 32 NHL franchises, none of them are currently meaningless but you are projecting Utah to be! Not gonna say you are wrong but that makes a pretty weak argument.

Personally in this day and age I think any city can carry a pro sport team if the ownership group is good. As long as you make an effort to provide a product worth watching for value you can be successful. A product of value doesn't always mean a winner either. If people can spend their disposable income on entertainment and leave entertained they will continue to spend that money. Now usually in sports winning equals entertainment but I think with owner groups like the ones that run the Savanah Bananas I feel that could shift.

Austin already has pro hockey in Cedar Park aligned w/ Dallas...... the other issue w/ Austin is how would the University of Texas allow a franchise basically in their arena....... similiar to what New Orleans has w/ the Pelicans have exclusivity control and the same in Oklahoma City with the Thunder holding exclusivity rights which is why hockey left OKC because 2 arena solution wasn't feasible

Texas is to small for just one NHL team.
Austin? Just like Columbus and thee Ohio State?
There's a lot of corporate HE'S located in Austin. And it seems it's still drawing new ones

Isn't Texas still the hub of the ECHL?
Seems the perfect location to grow the league. They wouldn't have to compete with the NFL,NBA or MLB for sports entertainment money

Houston is the one that's been mentioned more often than SA or Austin/Cedar Park....
