I feel like our choice for Team Sorcerer would fit right in with us.

Team Sorcerer: Black Mage from 8 Bit Theater (Nuklear Power » Archive » Episode 001: We’re going where?) - Side note: This comic probably hasn't aged well, but I enjoyed it 20 years ago.

Thank you, Beef! Beef Stock! Beef Pound! Beef Cake!

Ask the average Gen Z kid wearing a Nirvana shirt to name one Nirvana song and you'll get a blank stare instead of a reply. I owned all of these and many, many more, and still have that Pablo Honey shirt. Some of these are apparently worth hundreds. I really need to dig through my parents' basement.

@pit, I know your next selection, whatever it will be, will completely rock.

@Captain Dave Poulin @Hollywood Cannon think we need a ruling on this one...I chose vintage band tees long ago

The Sexpos are definitely only selecting this specific element for its unusually high magnetic properties and because it is recognized as having the highest magnetic permeability of all known elements. Yeah, definitely.

Team Element - Holmium

@JojoTheWhale you doing holmium activities, with holmium tendencies

So, we have to do some housekeeping. Let's go.

Rebel's pick for his Team Fashion - Vintage Concert Tees - was so f***ing good. I loved it. I've been trying to think of a way to let @mja keep his pick of 90s Concert Tees, because it would otherwise be an awesome choice, but it's essentially the same thing as Rebel's. What I would definitely accept is if mja chose one particular band/concert tee - I don't think Rebel would mind that, and I certainly wouldn't, because it's just one, and whatever singular overlap that would mean for Rebel would not be a big deal. So that's my ruling, or whatever - I think that's fair enough and avoids just saying "No, you can't have that." Of course, mja could just pick something else if he doesn't want to choose one band/concert tee.

So @mja can make up that pick whenever he is ready. @Young Sandwich is on the clock, @JojoTheWhale is on deck, Bernardo is on the lido deck, and ajgoal is on the lido afterdeck.

Just some more housekeeping, this time with a TV watching update. I am watching several things at once at the moment. I watch between one and three episodes of "Bleach" after the Dan Patrick Show in the morning, and for the most part it rules. At the end of the night, I always finish with a couple of episodes of "I Am SOLO." It is an ongoing series, so it churns out a new episode every week, and every season only lasts about five or six weeks. I still have about 30 eps before I am caught up and current. It rules quite a lot.

A few weeks ago I started "Penny Dreadful," with the impossibly scrumptious Eva Green, but after four eps I set it aside - I'll pick it up again when I am bored enough to re-try it. This week I started the second season of "Gangs of London." The only reason I did that is because I watched the first season, so now I have to watch it until it ends. It's pretty f***ing stupid. I also started "Severance," which is really well-made. I'm not sure how much I am enjoying it so far, but everyone I have spoken to has said it is awesome, so I'll see how it goes. I'll start the second season of "Slow Horses" after that - I'm really looking forward to that, but the one I am most looking forward to is season two of "Alice in Borderland." That is going to rule for sure (fingers crossed).

So there you go. You are sorted.

I wasn't going to read this, but then I saw Eva Green mentioned so I did read her name.

I think I got the gist of it. Basically you're mad about bum politics in your railyard.

"We are gonna ask you to listen to this song and tell me your honest opinion of what you think about it while you're listening." Three seconds into the music video, you know the concept. What you don't know is how honest they'll be. A few seconds later, you get your answer.

Jasmine James hates this song. Loathes it. She hands the headphones back and silently shakes her head no. We're getting full honesty.

We get introduced to a total of 28 people. A pleasant older woman who talks about her daughter's wedding. A therapist/singer-songwriter. A guy bitching about his ex-wife. A cartoonist in a studded leather jacket telling you he "doesn't like the na-na-na-na part." A cartoonist street vendor who mumbles "She sounds like some sorta Supergirl or something some feminist would approve of or something." A smiling home school student. A drug sales rep dancing his way down the street in a suit. A grumpy British retired architect. A German tourist uttering the famous line, "I miss a rising action." We get back to back clips of one person saying "I like the lyrics!" and another saying, "I really don't like these lyrics. They're awful." We also get this woman rocking out with the greatest caption ever put to screen:

image.png

Ultimately what we get is an unpolished time capsule of early 2000s NorCal. If you spent any time in the area, you knew a guy or twelve exactly like this:

CAKE__Short_Skirt__Long_Jacket_Official_HD_Video.gif

With today's eyes, this street level approach doesn't seem special. But YouTube was still four years from even being formed at this point. Rather than yet another video of a singer mugging at a camera, we get to travel back in time.

Why can’t I f***ing post anything? I’m getting an error to enter a message if I hit reply and the bottom of the page doesn’t have the quick reply.
No menus work so I can’t try logging out or anything. It seems like quote tweet is the only thing that works.

If I had a nickel for every time someone commented about my justice-tinted fingernails ...

"The owners of the Tampa Bay FireSticks had an exceptionally difficult time with the category of Team Sorceror. We could take the easy way out and choose Gandalf but where is the fun in duplication? On the other hand, practitioners of magic don't exactly fit into our MO. We did, however, find this curious and enthralling story about our real-life selection: Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel.

judah-loew-ben-bezalel-c7528edf-03bf-49e3-b7e9-76514de5e83-resize-750.jpg

(from Listverse.com)
"Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel was a scholar and mystic known as the Maharal of Prague. The respected figure, according to legend, was often sought out by the Holy Roman Emperor for both religious and secular knowledge. Though his relationship with the emperor was perhaps not as close as legends say, the two were on good terms. Emperor Rudolph II owned a bell the rabbi had created through cabalistic methods.

"Rabbi Loew was known for his large contributions to Jewish philosophy, but legend says that he also used his knowledge of the Kabbalah to create a golem.

129f372013ce359b2cf9fef671bc1280.jpg

"It was said that the Jewish community of Prague was being accused of blood libel—kidnapping Christian children and using their blood in religious rituals. According to stories, of which there are several versions, Rabbi Loew created a golem named Josef to protect his community from the persecution. Josef would patrol the street, making itself invisible and even conjuring up the dead to protect Prague’s Jewish community.

"It was said that the golem eventually malfunctioned and went on a murderous rampage through the streets. The rabbi put it down by changing the character written on its forehead. The character that had given it life was emet, the Hebrew word for 'truth.' Rabbi Loew changed it to met, meaning 'death.'

"The golem was laid to rest in the attic of the Old-New Synagogue, where it is said to remain to this day."

Who makes your golems, @ajgoal?

Team Element - Holmium

If I don't guess correctly which element @Young Sandwich is choosing, he is doing this wrong.

Oh no. I haven't even thought about that one yet, I'm definitely going to blow it. Time to strap on my thinking dildo.
