Still no fine, doesn't seem so black and white for the NHL to take this long.
So on your day off you can't go to the team facility by your own choice and hang out, go for a skate, and get a meal cooked by team chef?
North Korea I guess.
This thread is good for one thing, and that thing is figuring out who is a manager or a company kiss-ass
I guess management cannot readAgain, zero implication at all that any Stars players, young or old, were told they had to show up or were supposed to attend this optional skate during the break .
Why would it matter which one of their facilities it’s held at?Next year the boys will need to go to one of the other Stars Centers and have a free skate there without a skills coach and all will be well.

If not any club facilities, or coaches,Next year the boys will need to go to one of the other Stars Centers and have a free skate there without a skills coach and all will be well.
DeBoer said young players are expected to show up to these "optional" skates, so yes, there is an obligation. This is why the PA had to negotiate a hard rule because otherwise hard ass coaches would ruin the vacation time players want.Right, and I'm saying it's still more of a nothingburger because, again, the players were under no obligation whatsoever to attend this optional skate. If they'd held a team meeting and then benched players for not attending, that's a different story but a random optional skate doesn't appear to make much of a difference.
But hey, rules is rules and Dallas's owner will cut a cheque.

[mod] It puts players in a weird position where their commitment can unofficially be in question. If you have two young players, both trying to cement a permanent position on the team, player A comes to the optional skate and player B doesn’t, you really don’t see how B could on some level be thought less of? Whether the team acknowledges that officially or not is irrelevant. So on your day off you can't go to the team facility by your own choice and hang out, go for a skate, and get a meal cooked by team chef?

DeBoer literally said he expected the young guys to be there.I refuse to believe any Stars players were "pressured" into doing anything during the break.
They can, any player can, really, but the team just gets a tiny lil' slap on the wrist as a result, for daring to violate the CBA.
DeBoer literally said he expected the young guys to be there.
I mean, WTF? Where’s the grey area here? These guys probably had to fly home Christmas night just to make it to this stupid thing.
Everything is dumber in Texas.
Yeah well I’d like to think all sorts of things about the world. This was brought up yesterday and I'd still like to think his quote was taken out of context.
If it wasn't, then maybe PDB is trying to get himself fired and force Dallas's hand. Again though, I doubt it.

For the 100th time, there was no practice. The facility was open to the players some of which decided they want to come and have a skate for the day, their choice.
Players were on the ice and skating before coaches were even in the building.

Even if he didn’t outright mean “these young guys better be there”, he’s still implying he’s expecting the young players to be there.
Explicit vs. Implicit
From what I can tell, you are actually excited over the idea of a team violating the CBA, so I find it hard to believe you want the quote to mean something other than an implied expectation of participation by some.
People are mostly on break and have free time to involve themselves in nonsense like this. It's not that surprising.I wouldn't call it "excited" but I do find all the commotion rather amusing.

It’s a stupid thing to do.
Well, again, if that's the case then maybe DeBoer is pushing the line to see what kind of reaction he gets. And yeah I don't think he meant it explicitly either, regarding the young guns.
Probably should've just kept his mouth shut, but oh well. Too late now lol

A simple optional skatearound during the holidays = "omg you guys, Dallas is violating the CBA, get 'em!"
I dunno, I just find it kinda funny.
