If they end up building it and getting an NHL team, then I would imagine that the ECHL team would either fold or relocate as I doubt that the Wranglers would be able to successfully draw large enough crowds to sustain themselves with an NHL team in town.

If they end up building it and no NHL team comes to town, they'll probably just keep on playing in their current arena while the new place is booked with other events.

Not a guarantee that the thing will be built, though, as this hasn't been the first Vegas arena plan to go nowhere.

Yeah the Wranglers would most likely fold as it is currently at the New Orleans and is sort of a dump compared to other venues especially a brand new one that MGM would offer. I go to the Wranglers games now and it draws a decent crowd of around six thousand or so depending on the night, deals, etc.

I'm curious if say a team did get relocated to Vegas if anyone would pick up the Wranglers as a farm team as far as I know they aren't affiliated with anyone.

Bad idea if this goes through. They will get good attendance for a few years, but when the novelty wears off they'll have to be good or people won't come out. (They may not, in any case, when you consider Las Vegas as a market; quite a few people work in casinos-and they don't have what we would call normal work hours. That's a prime reason why the Wranglers have, for many years, played one of their home games at midnight-in recent seasons, they've upped it to 2 games.)

Considering how far away the AHL is from Nevada, I doubt there will be any issues with that league.

Kings and Ducks play their annual game at the MGM for years and sell out. the NHL has wanted to put an NHl team in LV for many years but the city refused to build it. Now it is being doen privately ad since it is AEG (It will get built) I can bet there will be an NHL team.

If you look at the west:
LV
Phx
LA
San Jose
Vancouver

it would make sense that the AHL might actuall move west. Vancouver is not going to be in Utica NY for a long period. LV would need an AHL team. Abbortsford is already in the west. The AHL stated last season at the BIG that they had/were going to have an independent group do a feasability study and it has never printed the results.

not likely, Vancouver's locked in w/ the Comets, whom they bought last off season for at least 5 years, Abbotsford already blocked the Canucks last season, eastern, since Fraser Valley Sports/Entertainment and Calgary own the franchise 50/50,

Worcester nor Manchester are going anywhere either, especially since LA also controls Ontario, and it's unlikely SJ and SF are splitting ties after the demise of Fresno a few years back in season. AHL Hasn't had any success west of OKC, SINCE THE MERGER and demise of the original IHL in 2001, 2 of those markets have already been relocated, Utah went back to the E, and sold its franchise to Cleveland (LE), AND Manitoba went to St. John's when the Jets returned from Atlanta.

as for the Wranglers, they're staying until they're told not to, but some of you keep forgetting the ECHL BYLAW, that the ECHL has the right to hold open a previously served market. Will they do that for Las Vegas?

I doubt the NHL is coming. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but I've seen these major-league Vegas arena plans for 15 years now, whether from Mayor Goodman and his downtown dreams, or the one supposedly to be built next to the Sahara on the old Wet-n-Wild property, or the one supposedly to be built behind Harrah's a few years ago... etc.

This arena MIGHT get constructed with AEG's backing -- but I'm betting it will be boxing, concerts, and MAYBE an NBA team eventually, but I just don't see the NHL going there first -- not with Quebec, Seattle, Houston, and KC all as potential relocation/expansion slots.

MOD NOTE: Please keep this focused on ECHL. "Tangents" to discuss NHL expansion/relocation will get it closed (and/or relocated to BOH).
