100%. The All-Star game is a waste of time this is what we need every year. Both games today were absolutely incredible. Even the non-hockey fans I know watched USA/Can tonight and loved it.

ABC is going to have a massive rating.
ESPN could have done more i think, their website had 4 nations way down.

To be fair, they were hitting all the shows on Thursday hyping it up and lot of hype on their (and their talents) socials last 3 days.

Example of Thursday:

Yeah its true, i was specifically refering to ESPN.com, and it could be different from Sweden.
on X ESPN and Sportscenter did good job, i did a quick overview of 4 nations view of today and
they had been viewed aroud 12 million times, the first fight 3 million, so Matthew deserves a raise

Have one next year then we'll see. Still need something every other year during the 'break'.

Surely some of the to-date and likely to continue positive #'s are because these are teams (e.g. McDavid playing w/Crosby) we haven't seen. Been so long since the last true best-on-best there's a freshness/newness to this.

Every other year (Olympics & World Cup) you can keep that anticipation/as something that matters. If NHL sees the #'s for this and starts treating it like they did outdoor games ("we need a million of these games per season!") then instead of CAN-SWE doing 4.1M in NA it'll quickly become 1.5M in CAN and 500k in the U.S..
Agreed but the league could have (not a world cup since that is too long) but small tournament 4 to 8 teams two years after the Winter Olympics and then the other couple of years you could have the All Star game.

They had last night's game the first event covered by SportsCentre on ESPN. However, I think CAN/USA will lose a bit of ratings with UFC and the NBA All-Star games going on. NBA because it is always hyped for some reason and because UFC is a gambler's paradise.

I don’t think so. Most people were shitting on the NBA last night and with the UFC being an Apex event there was hardly any hype behind it. I saw ppl who arent even hockey fans talking about the game on socials.

Not sure how much NBA All Star Saturday night could affect the problem is the same for every major league this events have lost a good chunk of the people.

I should rephrase my words from "lose" to not being able to "maximise" the ratings from the other two events. Yesterday was a match that should get 5-7 million people in terms of how awesome it was, but will probably just get around 2-ish million Americans.

Greatzsky 99 predicted the viewership for USA/Finland game exactly right. Wonder what he thinks? I was thinking 3.5 million for the game but with all the media buzz and interest around it it may go higher.

All-Star Saturday night will still get some numbers, UFC was really a nothing event off most-peoples radar. The good thing is the start of USA-Canada got a lot of attention and that happened during the most boring part of NBA skills stuff and before UFC co-main/main events so can expect a spike at the beginning of USA-CAN, and really the only thing to check out would have been dunk contest & UFC main event which ended roughly 15-30 min respectively before USA-CAN did so could see another spike at the end of the game.

As for the #. Was polls from sports media and some predictions, poll results had most people thinking between 2.0-2.5M, SMW predicted "at least 2.5M and maybe into 3.0M." I predicted 3.02M because thought it'd break 3.0M but wasn't sure by how much. This was all before the game and the noted attention so I think most feedback/predictions would add to their predictions if they made them after the game as opposed to before.

What is the non-finals game in 2019 that got 4 million viewers? It wasn’t the winter classic, so I can’t imagine what went on.

That makes some sense along with it being hilarious that it was a Blue Jackets game

Yeah, the post-derby slot had a good run. Caps-Pens got that slot back-to-back years and also were 4 mil plus games. And yeah, obviously Boston carried the [extra] viewership # but Columbus had a good local rating, too.

"The game is in a better place because last night's game existed," he said Sunday.

At its peak, 5.4 million American viewers watched the first "best on best" tournament game between the nations since 2016.

The best stat from Sportsmediawatch (and he does a great job) is there were only five non-football sportscasts since the World Series with higher viewership than the USA/Canada game. They were all boosted by being on Christmas (NBA games) and one Thanksgiving college basketball game with a NFL lead in. That is impressive.

i was i little bit off, but i predict 4.4 million and 5.2-5.4 peak.... :)

Prediction:
Sweden - Finland 1.45 peak 2
