Bruins-Panthers scores increase for ABC

Saturday’s Bruins-Panthers NHL regular season game averaged 1.05 million viewers on ABC, up 11% from Rangers-Capitals in the same window last year (954K). Boston’s win, which peaked with 1.4 million viewers in the 4 PM ET quarter-hour, delivered the second-largest audience of the NHL season — behind Rangers-Capitals the prior week (1.06M).

Going back to last Wednesday, TNT averaged 283,000 viewers for Avalanche-Blackhawks and 183,000 for Florida-Utah — down 22% and 34% respectively from last year.

I think it's okay, but I would add the link as well.

183k for Panthers-Utah, presume I'll have the TNT/truTV split tonight though stuff has been delayed lately -- hence, why this # was nowhere until today.

For those interested, finally got this:

TNT: 167k
truTV: 16k

Also for this Wednesday we have the TNT #'s (238k & 271k) but don't have the truTV #'s yet so not really worth posting until we have the full number.

Only an idiot would say that going up against the NFL is an "excuse" for a bad rating as opposed to a legitimate reason.

Of the top 50 most watched tv programs in America, the NFL is 46 of those (College football semis/final and the Academy awards being the other 4)
is poster a hockey fan, doesn’t contribute anything,

Oilers-Avalanche nightcap drew 389,000, the most-watched late game all season.

Its good seeing the Oilers get some nice ratings out west.

From above:

-NHL on TNT avg viewership Wednesday-

Hurricanes-Sabres: 259k
-TNT: 238k
--truTV: 21k

Oilers-Wild: 324k
-TNT: 271k
--truTV: 53k
Late game beating the early game. How often does that happen?

And the late game has a Canadian team as well

I think it's because superstars draw ratings and McDavid is the biggest superstar in the NHL, with Draisaitl not too far behind. If the NHL marketed its players as well as the NBA does then they would be a lot closer in popularity to the other major leagues.

From an European, how does the marketing of NBA stars look in a regular persons life? what does
NBA that is so good? (maybe should be a different thread)

This is a little off topic, but probably of interest to you number lovers.
Its the 3 games of the Global Series in Stockholm autumn 2023

TV6 is a channel that you can get free over the air, it is probably ranked 6th in popularity also
not one of the big 3(SVT 1 and 2, TV4) but close to TV3 and Kanal 5.

The last column is in K for viewers.

You go to stores and you will see them plastered everywhere from apparel advertisements to food items. You also see them in commercials regularly. They are constantly talked about by sports analysts plus have a huge social media presence.
Compared to NHL players in the US, you will never see them in commercials outside of a hockey broadcast. They rarely are talked about by analysts and have limited social media presence. Even Nike and Adidas stores rarely have pictures of NHL players up.

If i am going to Off Topic, let me know.
If ESPN would go all in for say 7 years with NHL how much would that change things?

I dug up some numbers from Sweden from TV10, a "free" channel, its included in basic "cable"
packages, these are the type of games that starts 1-3pm ET in the states. The info comes from this site.

This what they say of themselves (I used google translate)

This weekly report is based on the viewing results from a TV panel that reports with so-called people meters. The panel is representative of
households in Sweden and have been selected based on an extensive baseline survey. The viewing panel includes 3,000 households or approximately 6,360 individuals
ages between 3-99 years.
The audience measurements are marketed by MMS Mediamätning i Skandinavien AB and carried out by Nielsen Media Research. All data is
copyrighted MMS.

Note, there has been other games on TV10 this season, but according to my research they didnt make the top 10, so the info is not here.
