NHL Historical Simulator

Franchise Hockey Manager 2 is being released september 28th, on PC. It is surely miles better than the first edition and the database goes all the way back to 1930, including the WHA. The historical hypotheticals i have seen have gotten me on the bandwagon.

I made the mistake of buying that game early in it's cycle. I'll be waiting for it to be released and hear what people have to say before I give them my money. But agreed, the idea of it is amazing.

There's a reason they play 162 games in MLB. On any given day, the worst team can beat the best team. It happens, and if it never happened then the simulator would not be realistic.

While that's true that the worst team can beat the best team on any given day, especially in baseball, however Adam Bernero throwing a two hitter against the 1927 Yankees is a little unrealistic, considering the fact that Bernero never threw a complete game in his entire MLB career.

The guy had a 1-14 record in 2003, yet its realistic he walks into Yankee Stadium in 1927 with his 43-119 club and two hits arguably the best MLB team of all-time?

I then had him play the 1962 Mets, and of course, they score seven runs against Bernero in the first inning, winning the game 15-2. Choo Choo Coleman for the Mets hit for the cycle in the game. Pretty good game for a guy with nine career homers, two career triples, and a .197 career batting average.

One of the advantages with the new edition is that you can change players abilities manually if you so fancy.

Sure, why not? On May 5, 1927 the Yankees lost 6-1 to Washington, the pitcher was the immortal Hod Lisenbee, he of the career 37-58 record and 4.81 ERA.

Bernero was not as bad as a 1-14 record would suggest either, he actually have up the lowest batting average on the Tigers staff in 2003, just a hit an inning. And his only win of the season was against the Yankees! 7 innings of 3-hit ball against a team that scored almost exactly as many runs per game as the 1927 Yankees did.

I played a game between 1917-18 Canadiens and 2014-15 Blackhawks. The latter has much more players available, but it doesn't really show in the game.

Blackhawks won the game 3-2 in overtime. Toews played 36:29, Kane 31:20 while for the Canadiens, Laviolette played 57:28 and Corbeau 54:17. Of the Canadiens, Coutu, Hall and Lalonde were all ejected from the game. In total, Blackhawks had one second shy of 22 minutes on power play, scoring one goal.
