Is Schmid actually available, didn't Vegas trade for him. Or kahkonen.Kahkonen, Reimer, Raanta, Lankinen, Jones, Schmid, Prosvetov, or Copley are still out there.
Avs have always been linked to Reimer and they do like they WSH cast-offs, so Copley, or just re-sign Provo are my guesses.
One thing about the Nuke at $5m is the Avs will have to carry a player to ice a team that costs against the cap for the month. So it isn't a full savings. It's fine. He isn't factoring in Nichushkin's suspension pro-rating his contract.
The Avs will have a minor move to make OR try to ensure Nichushkin is reinstated making less than 5M.
Shoutout from Frank
I'm not concerned about this coming season. Avs likely have some options they will explore and it will be workable come season opener. One thing about the Nuke at $5m is the Avs will have to carry a player to ice a team that costs against the cap for the month. So it isn't a full savings.
The cap situation is pretty horrendous though. Next season, even if we get to say 93m cap it is even worse... Mikko's raise + George's raise/replacement + Drouin again with only about 5m.
What you just laid out is why there are some out there/here who believe the best course of action is to trade Mikko and re-balance the roster. One thing about the Nuke at $5m is the Avs will have to carry a player to ice a team that costs against the cap for the month. So it isn't a full savings.

Trade his ass now!And next summer Rantanen is going to demand 13 million.
Basically get f***ed, really have no idea how we get a complete roster. It's a trainwreck. But hey at least Drouin is back, so that's a win.We know Frank, we know.
Trade his ass now!
Sergachev and Rantanen are not comparable players.Fix our cap situatuon by pulling a Tampa like trade. Trade Rantanen to Utah for a huge package that includes Crouse + Cooley.
His math is off the mark.
They'll make it under the cap, but it will be a persistent problem. Even at the deadline, where the Avs will have to make moves to keep pace, they'll be having to overpay for excess retention.I'm not concerned about this coming season. Right course or not isn't super relevant as it is just insanely unlikely. Just like the whole Colton chatter... not a move teams normally make. What you just laid out is why there are some out there/here who believe the best course of action is to trade Mikko and re-balance the roster.
Of course, we could also just not re-sign Drouin, or we could have an entirely different path for Nichushkin, or Landeskog could be forced to retire (if his comeback does not go smoothly), etc.
Math is off, but he isn't wrong. Outside of something we don't know, a cap dump has to happen. His math is off the mark.

The team isn't running a 20 man roster most of the season. Not necessarily. All gonna largely depend on exactly what Nukes prorated contract is gonna be this year.
