NHL experimenting with increasing tv timeouts by 30 seconds

North Americans should love this since your favourite "sport" is on average 63 minutes commercial time.

Misleading. Much of the time spent on player/crowd/coach/replay shots is part of the game. Only people with a negative agenda, who wouldn't watch the NFL anyway, purposely misrepresent an NFL game as taking place solely within the snap and the whistle. It honestly reflects poorly on an individual's intelligence if they say they cannot watch a broadcast without constant "action". But really they just hate the NFL for a number of other reasons.

How about they blow the whistle after 5 seconds of no puck movement in those scrums behind the net and along the boards too
They can change a lot of stuff but having a coaches challenge take more than a couple minutes means at that point they are looking for a way to call back the goal.

If you can't determine if a goal is indeed a goal within 30 seconds then the call on the ice should stand.

A change no one would even notice in if it wasn’t publicized, but they will bitch about incessantly since it was.

Commercial breaks are 90 seconds, you can fast forward them by fast forwarding on most cable box remotes 3 times. Works exactly to the next face off.

You think no one will notice that now just lands them at another commercial?

They already have commercials built into the games for minor stoppages, and they want the actual commercial break to be even longer? Was that not enough?

Long reviews, more and more commercials, refs continuing to not drop the puck at faceoffs, they're slowing the game down more and more.

Combined with hitting being taken away and a purposeful decrease in fights allowed, the league really wants to kill themselves and decrease interest.

If I wanted a slow and boring sport devoid of physicality, I'd watch the NBA.

This Ford F-150 commercial brought to you by Adidas.

This commercial is brought to you by....

I can’t wait until the announcers are replaced by just constant in game ads that run the entire duration of all contests.
Yeah man, I hate those ESPN hacks too!

Replace player names with their sponsor.

Ford moves the puck up to Taco Bell. Bell over to McDonalds a save and buried by Burger King!! Fast food connection line strikes again.

Shutouts are now called Dunkin doughnuts

I'm fine with this, but only if they also adapt the 3-2-1-0 point system they're also experimenting with in this tournament.

If a regulation win was worth 3 points and securing a draw was only worth 1 point, it would make teams more motivated to play for a win instead of just securing the point. And it just makes more sense to have a pool of 3 points consistently that get allocated differently depending on game outcomes, instead of some games being worth 2 points and others 3 points completely arbitrarily.

Hate that we're at the point with sports where decisions are being made based on "is the money we get out of this, worth the slight discomfort it causes?" Rather than "lets make a better product, and that should generate more money".

Of course they are, moarrrr ads. Advertising ruins everything, some programs are unwatchable because of them. Idiots. Thank god I can pvr everything to fwd thru ads. The day I can't do that is the day I stop watching.

If they are experimenting with it that means they are going to do it. Nothing short of fans closing their wallets on the league will keep the NHL from chasing the $$$ no matter if it is bad for the game or the culture. This gambling take over is exhibit A.
