It’s just a boring result I wanted some more chaos like Ottawa jumping up to #2 and keeping their pick and like the Coyotes winning it. Instead #3 moves to #1, #1 to #2, and #2 to #3

Columbus has an awfully sad history of draft lottos. Gonna need a "rigged" google search counter on the state of Ohio

They film the whole thing and release it and invite media to attend it’s a real draw that happens. The production with the cards is just a show

Exactly. Setting up this little chintzy ping pong ball machine to show us and then do literally nothing with is dishonest at best. I don't necessarily doubt that people want to be in the room and verify shit for their team but if that's how it goes, show us that. Don't do this masquerading bullshit where you already have numbers on the cards because this was decided hours ago.

I think the leagues (NBA/NHL) stopped broadcasting the draws after the NBA endured years of conspiracy theories about the ‘85 draft that sent Ewing to the Knicks. You’ve heard all the crazy stuff - frozen envelope, etc…

So they’d probably just rather not have people dissecting the footage.

Oh, and it’s also easier to rig it behind closed doors ;)

They should just abolish the draft altogether. Why shouldn’t these players be able to offer their services to the highest bidder based on their talent level?

I understand this concern but why should Connor Bedard only be able to make ~$3 million per year on his ELC vs. the $16 million per year he’d get on the open market? Seems incredibly unfair to him doesn’t it?

There’d still be a salary cap in place so teams like NYR and TOR couldn’t just pluck all of the talent.
 
I'd be fine with just going back to worst team in the league gets the top pick. Just limit the number of times said team can get number 1. The Ducks were the worst team in the league. This system clearly isn't preventing teams from tanking anyways.

Had the Caps won the draft today though, I would be in support of the draft lotto.

Look, sour grapes or not, Chicago just shouldn’t be in this position after how things transpired. I’d be fine if they were given the first playoff pick, some mid-round thing to keep things competitive but still punish the team for misdeeds.

First overall just sucks. Makes it hard to root for Bedard too

The good (?!?) news is that all I'm hearing these days is how AI is going to cause the end of humankind, so Bedard won't even have time to win a Cup for Chicago! We'll all be dead by the end of the year! Woot!

I still think there are some questions on Bedard. He's small and can he be a center.

That would be my preferred outcome, if I had to choose between Bedard not being a generational talent and AI not causing the death of us all....

We Didnt move down, The smart fans have been looking at the players in that range. We have a entire thread about it. lol
