NHL Draft Combine 2025

Vansaghi destroyed on both right AND left handed grip strength. Would have thought a left handed guy would have won the left handed grip

And he's thick too, kinda looks like young Todd bertuzzi.

is EJ Emory any good
I'd love to see a correlation between past test results and future NHL success. Don't make CHAT GTP do it, it will f*** up the results for sure.

For some perspective, here's the top results from 2013. I think it would be a mistake for any us to read too much into any of the performance testing results, but it can be interesting to get a sense of a player's athletic profile.

Lots of guys will rise/fall because of measurements at the Combine.

Jackson Smith measuring-up at 6'4 instead of the 6'3 in his draft profile will slightly boost his stock.

Hagens measuring-up at 5'10 instead of the 5'11 on his profile, plus Cootes measuring-up at 5'11 instead of 6'0 will hurt their stock a bit despite them still being great prospects.

The Combine allows teams/scouts to perhaps better project how much physical runway a certain prospect has remaining, but I think it is also misleading in the sense that teams put too much weight on it.

Just draft talented players who project well and stop overthinking things.

And what is the list of those players? NHL drafting is extremely difficult to do above any average standard outcomes. Which is self-evident because no front office shows uniquely gifted aptitude in drafting outcomes long term. Even the best make massive judgment errors every single draft.

A guy like Martin for example didn't destroy the combine tests and doesn't measure out to be a "physical specimen" in the NHL.

But Martin's the type of guy that projects extremely well as a middle-6 versatile option on center/wing so just draft him and stop tergiversing about potential physicality issues in the NHL.

Same for Cootes, Hagens, and many others that just project well at the NHL.

In short, don't read too much into combine results.

In this clip (2 years ago?). Reminds me of Lucic... 2 defenders after him and one trying to bodycheck him. Still able to make the play. Beast mode.

If his skating improves... I think an increase in point production will follow.

Hagens measured at 5'10.5, just as he did in the fall. And just as it did in the fall, 5'10.5 rounds to 5'11. So I can't see that hurting his draft status.

Heights at the combine are measured to the nearest quarter inch.

I hope he's a Tinder that everyone swipe left on... untill the good Habs girls see how much of a good guy he is and swipe right on him...

Habs might not be the most sexy girl out there, but she certainly is a passionate one and has a good heart 😏😂

And Cootes is a responsible and engaged guy, he would fit right in in Habs land.

Habs fans naturally loves those never stoping motor guys...

They even prefer them to more talented, but casual guys...
