I’ve never heard a draft eligible say “I’ve been picking my spots and need to be willing to give more effort throughout the year”. Meaning he willfully chose to not try in games this year. I dont take much from these combine interviews, but this really rubs me the wrong way.

Could just be another way of saying that he is still learning to play in the WHL and figuring out his game.
I mean Christ these are draft eligible guys not 20 year olds finally going out into the pros.
Most of the people here, myself included, probably sounded like morons at 17.
These interviews just smack of people trying to find faults and/or things thangs that usually aren't there.
The on ice and skillset stuff is way more important but we live in a "we need more and more information world" and often the volume just doesn't matter as the real information gets muddled and lost.
The coverage has been the terrible… it’s like we stepped back into the 90s or something. The actual remote draft is probably going to also be a massive step backwards from the live Vegas Sphere experience.

He should take a page out of Jackson Lacombe and also add some offseason MMA. It seemed to have helped him out…
I guess it's better for him to acknowledge it than deny it.
The scouts were seeing it either way.

If they know a hint that a team from 5 to 8 really want him. And they are not committed to anyone really from 4 to 8. They get their pick , plus extra with found money (moving up in the draft).
However I can also understand the buzz on Martin. The type of player who is able to make an impact without even putting up points. But is also able to score clutch points as seen from U18.

Yeah tons of people can't stand his effort level. But that's also something that can be coached unlike many tools and skills. Any confirmation on Lakovic's measurements?

Utah/Arizona also being the franchise to make bold picks, Strome went #3 to them in 2015, Smashev #6 in 2023. They just seem to go with their guy. Very hard to predict who they will pick.

This may be their only chance to talk to a player before they become the property of another club. Doesn’t hurt to get to know some of the young talent coming into the league that may be on a rival team

Bruins should have taken out someone else for dinner lol. It looks like a dead giveaway, Martin is the guy they are interested in.
Teams picking earlier could try to "exort" if they have more than 2 prospects they are interested in. Its a perfect business opportunity.
