He adds some edge for sure. Trouble is, where does he slot? My understanding is that he's a second pairing guy on most teams these days, which still leaves us with a hole on the first pair unless we overplay him.

It's a good return and he's not a bad player, but how does he slot?

He's on the 2nd pair with Hainsey. Have to wonder if Murphy might be being dangled at this point. How many RHD PP guys do they really need?

We're fixing our defense with moves like this boys! This is a great trade. Hanifin isn't for next year I don't think. Maybe, but he likely won't be a top four guy.

And Hanifin could play in Charlotte next year as well (assuming he leaves BC), a lot of flexibility there.

I mean we are 8 picks into the 2nd round so I don't think that means the guy is a consensus first rounder according to the people who know the most.

Hainsey wiz more likely second pairing. Improvement but probably not enough for the playoffs. I don't know where I'd pencil in Hanifin. I think there's a chance he still goes back, we'll see.

I'd like to see us add one more legit dman.

Hanifin on the first pairing as a rookie though? I'd want to shelter him a bit during his first year, at least to start. I mean, maybe he does step in like Ekblad did, but I'd be cautious before throwing him to the wolves.

That's not what a consensus is. But that's semantics. I wanted Bittner too based on the mocks, but I still think NHL GMs and scouting departments know more than the media guys.

But again...that has Hanifin thrust into a top pairing role, something I'd rather see him earn rather than assume he can take.

Yeah it's more important to me that we have Hanifin at 26 than at 18. Let's make sure he actually is ready to be in a big role here. Because we have weak d, it won't be hard for him to beat people out for the third pairing, but I'd like RF to take care of that particular problem and then make Hanifin earn it.

We've been preaching patience as a new mantra around here. Back it up with Hanifin.
