I prefer having my center drive the opposing centers head on the ice after the faceoff while claiming he lost balance.

Forget the instigator, if the hit is deemed to be clean, then only 1 fighting major should be issued.
actually a great idea. I think the idea you're going to put your team on a 5 min PK would stop a lot of that.

That's only after slashing.

Only game I watched yesterday featured a nice clean hit on Mackinnon and a fight right afterward. Can’t remember if the avalanche got an extra penalty. Wood should have got an instigator in my opinion but did not.

It is pretty annoying to me.
Wood did get an extra 2

I genuinely appreciate the sentiment behind the post-hit fight, clean or not, but if the league is actually trying to cut down fighting in that scenario they need a better strategy.

I watched the utah/blue jacket game last night. During the game Damon Severson got in a fight with Michael Kesselring where Kesselring had a clean hit on a blue jacket player.

Damon received 5 for fighting and top of that a 2 minute for roughing.

The announcers mentioned the NHL is cracking down on fights after clean hits; that is why Severson received an extra penalty minute for fighting after a clean hit.

Has anyone noticed the change yet?
I don't think an extra two for roughing is enough. It's the very definition of instigating. IMO, should be 2, 5, 10 at the very least.

Either way just send my center to accidentally on purpose land on the opposing centers head after the face off.

Good. That's one of my biggest gripes about fighting in general. So many fights after clean hits, and nothing after dirty ones more often than not.

Hopefully the league is actually cracking down. Fights immediately instigated after clean hits have gotten out of control in recent years. Need a return to revenge for big hits by laying a big hit on the other team.

Too many dumbasses assume every big hit is dirty, so they start fighting on the spot. Used to be if there was a big hit the players would at least wait to see if the hit was dirty, then fight later in the game if warranted.

Incase you didn't see the play OP was referring to.

I mean if this is what we're trying to get out of the game we might as well give them pillows to swing at each other.

Jumping a guy for a clean hit should always be 2, 5 and 10 but the refs rarely call it that way.

I have a hard time believing that a two minute PK will have any effect to be honest. The instigator should be a double minor.

On the other hand, if you jump a guy who doesn't even drop his gloves and just turtles, there should only be one fighting major handed out.
