Nhl.com writers vote Mackinnon mvp for the 2nd straight year

I mean the bias is obvious. I remember reading this in a TSN ranking halfway through last season.

It's almost comical.

funny if Mack wins, as I think *this* one might be the make up call, following the 2018 debacle where it went to Taylor Hall.

last year…..deserved. a lindsay always helps drive it home for everyone.

I’m confused about Hellebuyck being in the conversation given he is not blowing other goalies out of the water.
Hellebuyck
- Number 1 in wins, 47 to 38 = 24% greater than the runner-up
- Number 1 in goals saved above expected, 39.6 to 29.2, 36% greater than the runner-up
- Number 1 in shutouts, 8 to 6, 33% greater than runner-up
- Number 1 in goals against average, 2.00 to 2.02, almost even here
- Number 2 in save %, .925 to .926, almost even here except .926 on 955 shots vs Hellebuyck's 1664

Seems to me Hellebuyck is blowing other goalies out of the water and is best in almost every major category.

As far as the forwards in contention, I guess none of them deserve the Hart as they are not blowing others out of the water.
Kucherov has 4.3% greater points than MacKinnon
Kucherov has 5.6% greater points per game than than MacKinnon and only 3.9% better than Draisaitl, McDavid

Hart voters do love the guy.

Assuming he finishes top three this year, he'll have finishes of 1, 2, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 1, 2 or 3 this year.

That's a better Hart record than guys like Trottier, Bossy, Sakic, Yzerman, Forsberg.

Even Ovechkin only has five top three Hart placements.
Well Ovechkin got a three year peak at most so that seems generous.

Lost last year in a razer thin battle for it and I think he deserved it last year too. Starting to feel like the North American bias is in effect should he lose again. Guy keeps winning Ross's and gets disrespected.
Suppose he is well and truly on Jagrs level in that regard.

...but NORTH AMERICAN.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always rooting for Canada, but this votes should be more well-rounded.
Strange response to him not being the best on his own team when the guy being referenced is also Canadian. Personally, I think MacKinnon is and has been the better player on his team this year. I think Makar has been the best defenseman, but watching the couple games at the end of the season when Mack rested, totally different viewing experience.

Does that mean I think Mack should be the Hart winner? No, not necessarily, but I really don’t see an obvious choice this year. I wouldn’t get too hung up on the NHL.com voting results though. My son was reading them off to me, can’t remember some of the bizarre voting from other awards, but OV got a first place vote for the Hart. Come on! I am fine with him getting some love, but your first place vote goes to him?

Suppose he is well and truly on Jagrs level in that regard.
And like Jagr he will only get his deserved glory long after he has left the league. Smart kids will notice how he outscored everyone (not named McDavid) left and right and will add 1 and 1 together… Some grandpas somewhere from the Rocky Mountains will tell them they don’t know puck but they will rightfully not care.
