NHL Cancels 2026 All Star Game; Will Hold a "Kickoff" Event Instead at UBS Arena

It's for the Olympics... if you're a hockey fan you should be happy....

Maybe it's because I don't buy into nationalist bullshit, but I really don't give a f*** about the Olympics or 4 Nations, etc. It's just another meaningless tournament where injuries could occur to the best players for no reason.

I hope the folks that DO like that kind of shit find it entertaining though, it's just not for me at all.

Yeah, unlike the all star game, where......ah, nvm

I, uh, would watch that.

I, uh, would also watch that.

I would imagine this entails a skills competition.
It would be cool to do a skills comp between all the Olympic teams that have NHL representation

Get a preview of everyone in their jerseys. Potential for upsets like Kopitar carrying Slovenia or something. (I dunno if Slovenia is qualified, just an example)

I'd do an onside kick

Today's kids are tomorrow's season ticket holders. The NHL surely does I would think
yeah, they do. The context of the reply to me, that elicited that post, has nothing to do with them though.

Why would i be happy about the Olympics?
It's just NHL players again, with shuffled teams and increased risk of injury to the season I actually care about.
Couldn't care less about the result either.
Olympics have been better the last few years without NHL players, because it gives one the chance to see some players they otherwise might not.

i agree

4 nonsense

Put two All Star Teams on the ice. Each player wins $100,000 if his team wins.

There is one un-disclosed player on each team who is the Traitor. The Traitor wins his team’s entire pot of incentive money if they lose.

The Traitor can only sabotage his team by making conventional hockey plays (i.e. dumb passes, inaccurate shots, missed assignments… but not shots at his own goalie).

Each team is allowed to do whatever they want to the player they suspect to be the Traitor. They can refuse to pass the puck to him. They can refuse to allow him on the ice. They can hit him. They can fight him.

Twist: neither team actually has a Traitor.

It's important to the players, and it's also an important way for the league to gain new fans.

The entire world doesn't revolve around you.

It might be important to the players, and that's fine. It's not, it's never made a lasting impact on the NHL. Just like the World Cup and 4 Nations garbage.

Yes it does.
