NHL Board of Governors approves sale of Coyotes and relocation to Salt Lake City (Mod warning post #157)

Don't think copying an NBA team is the way to go. They'd be so far behind Toronto when you say Raptor that you just don't want that, in trying to build up your brand.

Yeah zero chance Ryan Smith will want to copy an NBA team although it is legitimately a cool name. But Toronto owns it.

I spliced together my own little idea of a Bobcats logo and used some AI for a secondary logo, then messed around a bit more with my crappy ass editing skills. I personally like the name and think it would be a cool design elevated in all facets lol

If the name is Utah HC, I am going to run amok.
Assuming that it is the team that is trademarking these names, they may be looking at Utah HC or Utah Hockey Club as the temporary name until they chose a permanent one. Smith has said they may not have a name for the first year, but they're still going to need to be called something.

What route do you guys think, the team will take in Utah?

Will they continue to build though the draft or will they try and make the playoffs? All they D are UFA or RFA.

Which route do you think is the best?

I think they still need some more high end pieces.

They’ve already been building through the draft for like a decade now. Since the 2015 draft they’ve picked 3, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 11, 12, 12. They can’t keep doing that forever, and relocation is the perfect time to spend on UFAs and generate some momentum to go with the new identity.

They will try to compete right away. I expect them to make a play for a good number of UFAs.

It'll probably be easier to sign good free agents and not cast offs now that they have a permanent home + an active owner who seems fairly likeable.

Please not “Utah Yeti”. Somebody is going to think that alliteration is cute but it just comes off as strange to me. It even looks weird to write out. Also is Yeti the plural of Yeti and are they supposed to be a single Yeti or a group of Yeti…or a metal tumbler? Also aren’t Yeti(s?) from Asia? The Avs already have a Bigfoot to boot.

Any choice but Yeti please. Not really digging Blizzard either considering the Avs already have this snowy mountain aesthetic.

You can do a lot more unique color schemes and unique stuff with Outlaws or Venom IMO. I’d lean into more a western aesthetic than a snowy mountain aesthetic.
