Beautiful. I love it.

Oh god, I can't go back to the main board. Someone just made the serious argument that killing penalties is only important if you're leading or if it's late in the game.

Thanks. I gave up on that thread too. The outcries are too much to handle and many are forgetting EK has already won it 2 times. What I take out of this years voting is the voters aren't just looking at the guys who just put up the most points, they're looking at the entire defensive game too.

@theroyalhalf
Anze Kopitar pays tribute to the LA Kings 2015-16 playoffs by not showing up.

Lmao
That's the best thing about these awards ceremonies. This joke is actually cool.

Too bad I don't have the time to read all the posts ion the Doughty/Kopitar threads, but I appreciate the meltdown idiocy of the few posts I read...

Some people here actually believe he's a better defenseman than Drew...

I can understand how some fans will argue for their guy and read stats so they favor their guy, but just read puckdaddy on yahoo and greg whineyass writes an article that not only didn't congratulate Drew he out right says 65 is better and the only reason 8 won is because people thought he was due , I guess after pick and choosing your facts for articles and then being proven wrong stings and some are not man enough to deal with it , but to write this article is low even for this *****

Congrats to Drew Doty- Was going to comment on the main boards, but after 2 pages realized it was a bad idea.

My thoughts on him winning, is that he is 100% deserving of this award, the only thing that surprised me is the margin of Victory over EK, considering the type of season he had. Yes, EK's statline or metrics aren't what you traditionally look for in a Norris finalist, but he did something very few Defensemen will ever do.

It's sad and a little bit frightining just how important the Norris is to Sens fans. Some of them need to get some fresh air and put **** in perspective. To care thaaaat much about an individual award is borderline certifiable. I couldn't care less that Doughty won. I mean good for him personally and all that, but we still only won a single Playoff game this year. My focus is on this team going forward and trying to make another legit Cup run before it's too late. Squabbling over an individual award that has already been determined is such a waste.

The irony is that some of those same fans will be putting him on a pedestal for a few weeks when the World Cup of Hockey happens. Then it'll be like Doughty and Muzzin are beasts! Vive la Canada!

he's been anti-Doughty for a long time, dude is a tool

I see what you did there...tool. If we're thinking about the same guy that is. Corsi-rel FOREVER! I do find it funny how Rangers fans hitched their wagons to EK when their own supposed Doughty-equivalent defensemen came back to Earth after 2014.

No matter what Doughty does I guarantee some of the usual haters will come out of that tournament talking about how Muzzin is the real best defenseman on the Kings.

And I love the guy who went through and screenshotted a word document of the most selective possible stats with no context and used those for 'proof' against Doughty. My god, the crusade...there are people making propoganda word documents, gifs, infographics and even VIDEOS against Doughty as if it's going to change people's minds somehow

Again, just wish I was good at editing video so I could put together a 2016 Doughty highlight's package. It would be phenomenal. What a season.

just goes to show how good Doughty is. Ive never seen people go to the lengths that they are now to try and discredit a dude winning an award. they are desperate to convince themselves that EK was better

Doughty was top 10 in offense, arguably the best defensive d-man in the league, and the leading possession d-man by a mile--his shot attempt differential of 541 is the highest in a decade of data (and likely more, but can't dig it up). The next closest was Datsyuk in 2008 with 533, but even then his closest teammate, Zetterberg, was only 8 behind him. Doughty's closest teammate this year was 116 behind him (and that was his closest competition in the league in general--if you look to ANOTHER team, his closest competition is 197 behind him).

That 116 SAT gap is HUGE since most years the top guys are separated by single digits.closest I see is Keith with a 54 SAT lead on Sharp in 2010. and that's massive enough given that the other ones I see are predominately single-digit differences and none more than 20. Doughty literally more than DOUBLED that difference.

The best possession team in the league was 5% better with Doughty on the ice, which is no small feat considering the gap between the 1st place kings and 2nd place was the same as the gap between 2nd and 19th place.

The top 5v5 GA team in the league was more than half a goal against better with Doughty on the ice.

+/- in and of itself is silly, but it does match Doughty's season in this case, and no d-man who played more than 24 minutes per game had more than a +13--except Doughty, with a +24.

And all of this is before the eye-test. Doughty has typically (and unfortunately for him) been a guy you have to watch frequently to appreciate more; this season, all his numbers being up that much just shows how immense he was despite playing the toughest minutes in a shutdown role carrying the corpses of McNabb and Scuderi around the ice. And also this is considering a guy like Muzzin eats into Doughty's numbers a bit by being awesome himself i.e. harder to distinguish himself, yet he did it with flying colors.

There's more but frankly people have their minds made up so **** it.

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but why do you care so much about proving that Doughty is better or more deserving than EK? You've been at it all season long. Who cares if other fans don't judge Doughty fairly? You're not going to change their minds just like they won't change yours. I can't understand why an individual award has both sides so worked up all year long. The only award that matters went to the Penguins, imo.

It's a discussion board and I like discussion.

I for the life of me don't get it either. You have two fanbases who are so obsessed with a stupid media voted award that they continue to trash two Hall of Fame bound d-man because they think it makes their guy look better.

Says the guy who spent 100s of posts doing what for Mike Richards?

You don't have to understand it, but as a guy who is very interested in the finer points of defense, I have a lot of fun in these discussions, whether or not some insanity ensues.

I watched about 40 sens games this year to get a better feel for the guy, too. And I've rarely trash talked the other guy, only comparatively. It's part of being a fan, getting to know the game better by examination and discussion. I don't have to ****ing defend that.

I'll never understand posters who criticize what other posters are and aren't into with respect to discussion tendencies, but it is what it is, I guess.

Man, the summer break sucks.

I wan't talking about you specifically, but you were there most of the way defending Mike Richards, so.....

I don't know if you have personally trashed Erik Karlsson, but there has been plenty of it on this board towards him, and on their board towards Drew. That is the part I just don't understand. It's two very likely first ballot hall of famers vying for an award that can only be won by one guy each year. I personally think Drew played better in 2015 than he did in 2016 and I thought EK had one of the best seasons from a d-man in a generation.

Why can't we just appreciate the greatness of both players instead of turning it into the garbage "discussion" it's become the last two seasons?
