Habs play Friday and Saturday, and I'm guessing that even if this gets done quickly Demidov won't be ready to fly over and play by then. Quite possible Monday vs the Hawks is his debut

Watching Canadiens fans take a victory lap on Demidov has me ready to rant again. First of all, anyone who says we can't compete until we get more pieces check Montreal's stats. an 86 point scorer 2 60 point scorers and that's literally it. They are done rebuilding and have Demidov left in the chamber. Literally like if Bedard had a season 15% better with Teravainen and one more player. They are so deeply unimpressive. You get Marner or literally any of the top 6 UFAs this summer and you've matched them before any of your prospects even hit.

Meanwhile Hudson is out winning the Calder and I can't help myself. Hughes, Karlsson, Hudson. Like, he's going to be super fun to watch for 15 years but what do you win? Small, waterbug, offensive defensemen sell tickets and don't win cups. You need big heavy mobile defenders. You can give them two more Demidov's and have Slafkovsky FULLY hit and they still wouldn't sniff in my opinion. I really feel like the Canadiens have signed themselves up for another decade of middle of the pack barring some insane mid to late 1st round defensive hit or some crazy progress from their Allan-level defensive prospects.

Not exactly. Their prospect pool also includes Reinbacher, Hage and Fowler. That’s high level if they pan out. You don’t need 15 great players in a 32 team league. 6-8 are sufficient.

Yep.

Good for them that Lane Hutson can put up a lot of points. That's huge. But until shown otherwise, I have my doubts a guy his size can be a #1D in a long playoff run. Most of the pure offense/4th forward type Ds don't excel in playoff hockey. There are some examples of players that have had playoff success like that, I remember how amazing EK65 was during that Sens playoff run. But Hutson is almost certainly not going to be that caliber of defenseman.

I still would take Demidov over Levshunov, but I at least acknowledge how significant it is that we got a lot of guys on defense who can play a two-way game. Even some of the ones that lean more offense, like Levshunov, will almost assuredly play better D in their careers than what Hutson will provide. And almost all of our guys are built like red woods. Once they gain that man strength, they ain't getting pushed around, they'll be the ones doing the pushing.

Hawks fans will crap on Lane Hutson and then insist you can win with a slow and small Bedard as 1C

Celebrini is unreal. Hat trick and a 5 point night. Passed Bedard in points in both their rookie seasons in 2 less games (Celebrini does have better forward talent around him).

Sounds Like Ekholm is done for the season. Adjust your playoff brackets accordingly, he’s the glue of that backend
No worries, after hearing peoples opinions during a rebuild all you need is two elite forwards, one decent defenseman, and the rest of the team can be whatever because those three pieces will lead you to a cup.
