NHL and Rogers in agreement on new Canadian TV deal, 12 years worth $11 billion CAD

Their deal is for 30 regular season broadcasts, not "a handful of games in March". Clearly going well if you're completely ignorant about them until I hand feed you some knowledge.

Yes my point is they could show games from Oct to May. Bigger contract. No need to be ignorant.

At what point does Sportsnet upgrade their set?
Humungous set yet the panel crowds around a little table like their at 1960's "Key Party".
Maybe add a few lightbulbs in this depressing atmosphere

Wow, so it's more than doubled. Each Canadian team has another $80 million CDN in yearly revenue. Or about $56 mil US.

I imagine this will increase the cap for 2026-7 a good amount. And make Canadian teams quite a bit more profitable.

Hopefully, this gets the NHL to finally consider Quebec for expansion. And Toronto 2, IMO best located in Mississauga off the 403.
You might want to sit for this ... The TV money gets split among all 32 teams, not just canadian teams.

Canadian dollar was around .89 US when the deal started but quickly tumbled to around the .80 US mark early in 2015. For the majority of 2014-2026 deal the dollar has been around .75 US.
It was actually 0.95 in November 2013 when the deal was signed.

THATS what a key party looks like!!!

Oh man, glad it’s not a thing anymore for more than one reason. The biggest reason being Ron Maclean sitting at a small table as you walk in.

This is just a precursor to ESPN having the rights for another 20 years isn't it? Not looking forward to that day, considering I despise this current American contract.

Some of the replies are kind of funny. The caliber of SportsNet's coverage is irrelevant to the NHL, and there isn't any *giving* the rights to TSN or the CBC. This was a bidding process, not an audition.
it was an exclusive 2 month window for Roger’s to negotiate a new deal, before it opened up to other bidders.

I think that's $155 million CDN per team per year.

How much was the old deal worth?
It’s the national deal, it also gets split with US. I believe it might be slightly bigger piece of pie for cdn teams, like the US national deal is slightly more for US teams.

Regional TV deals are for the individual teams .

Reminder: Dallas and Anaheim stream games for free on Victory+ stop letting these broadcasters scam you out of your hard earned money.

Difference is those teams are the least popular in their markets. In Canada NHL teams are like NFL teams there

Yeah and it’s the best. Streams are awesome quality and free (except for me, I live in Canada as a ducks fan so use a VPN lol)

More teams, no Blackouts, Making amateur hockey more affordable, dibs on the top local players. Big markets like Montreal and Toronto should be given SOME advantages too.

Canada has been pumping the lungs of the NHL for decades with an infinite amount of players. And with money too.
Who in Canada exactly is willing to cut the $1.5 billion check for a new franchise?

Oh, and you don't need blackouts if there are regular stadium sellouts.
