NHL 25 Discussion

I guess I'm in the minority but I think the gameplay is fine for the most part, my biggest gripe is the laziness with Be a Pro, Customization, and graphics. If you play a game of FC (Fifa) and then go back to this it legit feels like you're comparing a PS5 game to a PS2 game graphically. It's unfathomable how bad these graphics are for a 2025 game. There is still no customization sliders for individual facial features, you can only select from generic pre-made faces. There is greater player customization depth in sports games that I play on my damn PSP which is a 20 year old console, than there is in NHL 25 lmao.

In ESPN NHL 2k5, you could remove players' teeth while editing their faces, and 2k10 gave you total customization over every piece of goalie equipment--mask type and paint, pads, stick, blocker, catching glove, everything. It's crazy that EA is too lazy to put in options that were included in much earlier console generations with less power, but these touches aren't HUT cards.

The game is absolute garbage and the mechanics of the game play gets worse every time. Then there’s the cost of this game. It’s absurd and I don’t care about price when I buy something I want but I also don’t like paying 80% more for something worth 20% of the price they charge for the game.

It’s like they vinyl wrapped an older car and claim it’s brand new. It’s the same shit. Even worse music, awful UI, game physics absolute trash, and you pay for this garbage for $100+

This is what happens when you have zero competition. You can make trash and charge whatever because you’re the only show in town. Also the way that EA functions as a company is just horrid. They’re worse than Adobe and their price gouging subscription bs.

Most gaming companies release their game to subscription services like PlayStation+ or Game Pass a few months after release. The NHL adds it at game 80 when the interest to play it is at the lowest. So now you download the game, the season is over so you maybe do a GM mode and then you give up a few weeks in because it’s boring and the team you like is going to change a lot in the next month or two and you can’t invest the time.

Playability is absolute garbage. This is the issue with annual releases of sports games. It shouldn’t be yearly. It should be spread out more with updates. Like how you would with Halo or something or GTAV.

EA blows. They ruin everything they get their hands on for IP’s.
Yet you keep buying it. Why don't you put all that useless energy you have for a video game too good use.

I stopped buying it a while back. I have some mates that work with EA and get the games from them for free and usually he’ll throw me the Madden and the NHL ones as he is a huge FIFA fan (I mostly send them to my nephews out in San Diego as I just can’t sit through how awful the games are anymore), one of those perks of doing business type of deals with EA. I can’t imagine anyone burning almost $100 on a piece of shit game that is marginally if even that, better than the version the year before. Then for the blokes that get it on Game Pass when the season is over, the game is virtually useless because for one roster updates slow down and also if you’re playing when the playoffs start you are now starting the game when you’re headed to the off season so now the salary cap doesn’t make sense anymore and the contracts are also a waste of time etc.

The game is just insanely behind on the options it should have to make it as good of a simulation as it should be but it fails miserably.

Also maybe put more energy at a constructive reply rather than being hurt by the fact the game is trash and wanting better from a gaming franchise that has consistently mailed it in while raising prices should be called out more often.

There is a massive drop in quality from the FIFA games to the Madden and the NHL ones. Madden has also started to suffer the last few years. The game is just frustrating for the game physics where it feels like they took massive steps back and the hits feel awful vs some of the older versions where they did a better job at it. The nhl suffers heavily for that with the shooting and skating.

I guess I should just like every game of things I like even when it’s absolute trash and be ok that these companies want top dollar for a product that looks like they put in bottom dollar effort.

The fact that CD project red turned to a money grubbing drone like the rest of the companies when they wanted to be different, there’s very few good game studios left. EA has not been one for a very long time. The way they took a fat shit on the Star Wars IP is legendary for how to f*** up a cash cow.
