To carry over some of the conversation from the past thread:

So I was playing Madden 25 last night, where they show some tidbits from past Maddens... And it says Madden 2001 was the first to have real life coaches on the side lines.... That's 14 years ago... Does the NHL franchise not have real coaches because of laziness or licensing issues?

Licensing. Plus they never utilize the coaches other than your lame cutscene. Have no clue how much such a license would cost though. I always thought the same about having actual refs/linesmen in there and maybe having their likenesses and tendencies in the game, so you can have varying results with officiating depending on the assigned officials. Would add a new crinkle to the gameplay.

I also think it has to do with the nature of both sports. In football, the play that the coach calls is imperative. Hockey has some set plays, but there is a lot more creativity at the player level, whereas most of the creativity in football is from the coaches(this is a generalization, I realize there are creative football players). You can change your strategies in the NHL series(it doesn't do anything, but you can do it) so that kind of removes the need for the head coach. Head coaches would be an awesome addition to GM mode, but they wouldn't make a difference in actual game play.

EDIT: I also like the idea of either real officials, or at least officials tendency. Even if they can't get the names of the officials, they could have them behave in a different manner. Before each game you could see if you had a relatively loose official, and you could get away with some more stick infractions/post whistle scrums, or a strict one that will call nearly everything. That would definitely add a new layer to the game.

Agreed, it's more of a visual thing as a basic feature. They talk about realistic stadiums, put coaches that look like their real life counterparts. Phase II would be to have the coaches move around in BaGM and actually reflect their style of play.

About the referees... didn't the 2K series have different refs (all visually the same though) that would call the game differently? I remember seeing that, maybe in 2K4 or 2K5?

Coaching should be there, even if with just a bunch of fake names and likenesses. I mean, you can be benched in NBA 2k MyPlayer if you turn the ball over too many times. Why not in EASHL for dumb penalties and giveaways? Also, each team runs a different system in real life. Like if I'm facing LA, I wanna play against a team that totally suffocates you defensively. Meanwhile, if I'm facing Edmonton, I wanna play against a team who takes chances and is extremely aggressive offensively.

So Madden 15 does not have a demo coming out this year, and it seems likely that NHL 15 will not have one either.

If you go back to the hiphop gamer interview, the tv on the left seemed like the main menu for the demo. There was play now, practice mode, news and updates as well as something in the bottom right corner I couldn't make out.

Edit: That bottom right corner says trailers. There is no way in hell that menu is from the actual game.

The demos are up to the developer and wether or not they want to release one. Madden has nothing to do with NHL's demo

We can complain as much as we want on NHL games, but damn Madden has been EXACTLY the same since 2010. We cannot say the same thing about NHL, every year they come with something new

I believe FIFA has that.

MLB The Show has that as well. They don't tell you outright how the umpire is going to call the game, but as the game moves on, you can tell which pitches that are actually out of the strike zone will be called a strike, and which strikes will be called balls. It adds a bit of variety to the game.

I like how in the pictures they've shown showing off the new crowds, everyone had their arms up in exactly the same way like cyborgs. So everyone will still be stiff and awkward, there'll just be more variety in how they seem so. lol.

There is no 2 player online experience in FIFA 14 for PS4...So the possibility that people can't play with one another is open. If its a new game built from the ground up, I expect there might be some key features missing.

Only thing that sucks about Madden is how they took out the franchise mode they had in Madden 12. Best franchise mode I've ever played.
