Patriots/NFL NFL Patriots Off Season

They can still take a LT with a later pick to compete with Lowe. I've seen some poeple speculate that Lowe may improve just by having a better guard next to him, too. Who knows.
There are a few veteran LTs still out there looking for homes.

Tyron Smith is 34, has a hard time staying on the field, and wasn't great for the Jets last year.

DJ Humphries is 31, tore his ACL at the end of 2023, rehabbed and got signed by the Chiefs late last year, but didn't look like himself. He was pretty decent before he got hurt, maybe he rounds back into form with another off-season's worth of recovery time.

Joe Notebook has played both tackle spots for the Rams in the past, but he's not great. I'd be OK if he was a backup swing tackle.

Kendall Lamm is another swing tackle who's played some LT in the past, but most of his time has been spent at RT. He's considered a pretty decent pass blocker, but won't help much in the run game.

Jedrick Wills is a former Top 10 picks with the Browns, who has never lived up to the hype. Vrabel got a close up look at him last year - if the Pats haven't gone after him yet, I'm guessing there's a reason.

He certainly wants his fair share of targets

The good news is with this WR room he should be able to get them
I think every receiver, especially good ones, does for the most part.

It’s an improvement so I’d definitely take him but just seems like they’re pivoting to the bargain bin.

If they sign Diggs does this mean Will Campbell at 4?

Regardless of whether we sign Diggs, I can't see us taking Campbell.
Historical stats say no one with his length of arms has been a pro bowl LT. He will be forced to play guard in the NFL. You do not take a guard with the #4 pick.
I see us taking one of Hunter or Tmac if Carter is gone, which I will be fine with.
Draft a LT with our second pick and take another one in round 3 with our double pick and hope one of the two pans out.

Bingo.

He's an athletic freak of nature. People just don't want him for some reason and I can't figure out why.
Athletic freak of nature is extreme. Guys like DK Metcalf, are athletic freaks of nature. Hunter is a good athlete bordering on great. His production and ability to play both ways are why he shot of draft boards and rankings. Hes not even the best athlete at WR this year.

Tell me another player in the last decade who played WR/CB pretty much every snap and excelled at both?

I think that’s the issue with picking him at 4 when your biggest need is WR/ LT. If Gonzalez isn’t in Foxboro I’d definitely be all in. Again I like Hunter I will root for him if he’s their guy but I think it’s possible they trade back a few spots. If someone is hot for Hunter I’d drop back 3-4 spots and add an additional 2nd in this draft. I’d use both 2nd’s on left tackles

He plays WR.

Therefore he  is filling a need on this roster. I'm not using the 4th pick for Campbell.

But he’s NOT the consensus best WR in this draft. He’s ranked as the 4th best pure WR in most scouting reports. The fact that he’s projected to go top 3 or 4 is due to the fact he’s an elite cornerback.

Here Bleacher Report yesterday has Hunter ranked as the 7th best WR in this draft. If you think the Pats need a cornerback at 4 then yes Hunter is the guy.

I think you might have misread that article. They provided landing spots for the six WRs they have ranked in their Top 50, and then added Hunter in at the end as a "bonus" since they have him ranked as a CB.

Also, I tend to follow the draft process pretty closely, and I'm not sure I've seen any reputable source rank Hunter as the 4th-best WR in this draft.
