My wish list for UFA's / moves for the Pats:
Trey Smith - G - he will make a boatload of money this year
Chris Godwin - WR
DJ Reed - CB
Milton Williams - DT
Alaric Jackson - T
Darius Slayton - WR
Get rid of Ramondre Stephenson's contract somehow
I can't see the Patriots being the team to give Trey Smith a huge contract. He effectively plays the same position as Mike Onwenu, and I think there's an organizational need to find out what they've got in players like Strange, Sow, Wallace, and Robinson. If they want to add to the IOL, I could see them signing a relatively low cost player who can flip between LG and C.
For me, Milton Williams is basically another Christian Barmore... really good interior pass rusher who struggles against the run. Given that the Patriots were horrid against the run last year, I'd be focusing more on adding someone who could address that need more than someone who essentially duplicates what Barmore brings to the table.
Godwin is another player who is really good, but maybe isn't a great fit for what the Pats are looking for. He's more of a big slot than an outside speed guy. Their best WR now is probably Pop Douglas, who's also a slot receiver, albeit a different style of slot receiver than Godwin. Someone like Darius Slayton seems like a better fit for what the Pats are looking for than Godwin.
I'm with you on DJ Reed and Alaric Jackson. I'd like to see the Patriots pursue both aggressively.
There's no pressing need to move on from Stevenson at this point. No matter what they do, it'll cost them cap space. Give him another year behind what hopefully an improved line and see what happens. I wouldn't mind adding another RB in the draft, but not before pick #77.
Patriots have caught a break - it’s a good draft. Only Ward is a likely legit top 3 OA QB but it’s very deep with as Daniel Jeremiah says future starters.
Ideally id like to see them flip with Raiders grab a 2 and pick TE Warren from Penn State
He is from the Gronk tree and can give Drake a receiving weapon and can help in run game and blocking
Antonio Gibson amazingly was #1 in NFL with 4.4 yards after contact which tells you the D was in the backfield in a second
Warren can help that area as well
Getting Ronnie Stanley would be significant add to OL
I don't think it's a good draft. I think there are some positions where it's intriguing, but overall, it's a lousy year to have the 4th overall selection.
I like Warren. Using the 6th pick in the draft on a TE is not a recipe for success, IMO.
